Two old foes will do battle on Monday to close out Round 5 of the 2022 AFL season, reigniting a rivalry that spans over decades. There have been some truly classic matches between these two teams, even in recent times when Hawthorn have been a lesser proposition. So, what to expect today? Hawthorn are a proud club and I expect them to be up for the fight, ensuring that Geelong will need to be near their best.

Hawthorn vs Geelong Betting Tips
MCG, Monday 18th April, 3.20pm (AEDT)
Hawthorn
Injuries: Lachlan Bramble, Will Day, Ben McEvoy, Chad Wingard
The Hawks have lost one of their best rebounders in Will Day for this clash, while Chad Wingard will also be on the sidelines.
The youthful Hawks have showed a lot of promise to start the season, however they were well and truly brought back down to earth last week by the rampaging Saints. There is talent across every line but one area Hawthorn needs to get on top of is the midfield. Tom Mitchell has not been at his best and his fellow experienced midfielders need to step up their game to ensure Hawthorn can be consistent throughout the season.
Geelong
Injuries: Jon Ceglar, Toby Conway, Flynn Kreuger, Sam Menegola, Quinton Narkle, Gary Rohan, Sam Simpson, James Willis
Sam Menegola is nearing a return and Geelong are inching closer to a full strength side. Stars Tom Stewart and Joel Selwood are back for this Easter Monday clash.
Geelong have shown that they’re not about to fall off a cliff just yet, sitting 3-1 after four rounds with impressive victories against Brisbane, Essendon and Collingwood. The spine that has serviced them so well for so long remains and a lack of young legs has not hindered the Cats so far.
Match Prediction
Both teams generally turn it on for the Easter Monday fixture and they have shared wins over the last few years. Hawthorn appear weaker on paper but will be hoping that their run and carry can trouble the ageing Cats. After last weeks performance, its hard to put too much faith in the Hawks though and Geelong should account for them this time around.
