May 19th 2022, 2:33pm, By: Andy Rosos

Carlton vs Sydney Betting Tips

Round 10 in the AFL season kicks off on Friday night as the Blues take on the Swans from Marvel Stadium! Its a big clash between two top eight sides and as always, Andy Rosos has you covered with his preview and betting tips for the round opening clash below.

Remember to check out our AFL Tips page for updates on every game throughout Round 10 this weekend.

Carlton vs Sydney Betting Tips

Marvel Stadium, Friday 20th May, 7.50pm (AEST)

Carlton

Injuries: Ed Curnow, Josh Honey, Jack Martin, Mitch McGovern, Luke Parks, Marc Pittonet (Out) David Cunningham, Liam Stocker, Zac Williams (Test)

The Blues will be without a few key players in the likes of Jack Martin, Mitch McGovern and Marc Pittonet for the Friday night clash. Caleb Marchbank hasn't played an AFL game since all the way back in the 2019 season, but after a successful return in the VFL a few weeks ago, he could be in line to make his 2022 debut.

The Blues have won their last three games on the trot and sit in fourth place on the ladder. They are coming off an impressive win over the Giants on the weekend on the back of a dominant performance from midfielder Sam Walsh. Walsh racked up 31 touches and booted 2 goals in the win and the Blues didn't seem to miss star forwad Harry McKay as they kicked 15 goals and had eight individual goal kickers.

Sydney

Injuries: Harry Cunningham, Sam Naismith, Angus Sheldrick (Out) James Rowbottom (Test)

The Swans have arguably the best looking injury list in the league at the moment. Only Harry Cunningham and Sam Naismith remain on the sidelines from their best 22, with James Rowbottom likely to return to the side this week.

The Swans snapped a two game losing streak with a win over the Bombers by 58 points on the weekend. They moved back into the top five with the win, currently maintaining a 6-3 record. It's been an inconsistent year to date for the Swans, with their two straight losses in Round 7 and 8 both coming at the SCG, one of them as massive favourites against the Suns.

Match Prediction

Arguably the toughest game to call in Round 10 of the AFL and the bookies agree. The Swans start as just 1.5 point favourites on the road but im not confident enough to side with either team here.

Instead I'm a fan of the overs here. The Blues have been one of the highest scoring teams in the competition over the last three weeks, putting up 11.6 points per game over that period.

The Swans have been a strong defensive team at home, but on the road this season they have been involvevd in higher scoring games. In Swans games away from the SCG this season, 172.7 points per game have been scored while Carlton's games at Marvel have had an average of 184.6 points have been scored.

Match Props

Jack Newnes has been solid in his five games since coming into the Blues line-up in Round 5. He has averaged 17.4 disposals per game and has had at least 15 in four of his five games. Oliver Florent has averaged 16.3 disposals per game this season and has had at least 15 in six of his nine games. Multi them together for $2.27 at Ladbrokes.

Newnes & Florent 15+ Disposals ($2.27 at Ladbrokes)

Jake Lloyd has had a quiet season by his lofty standards but has still averaged 25.0 touches per game. He has racked up over 100 fantasty points in his last two games with 26 touches against the Suns and 24 against the Bombers. Good value about him to crack the ton once again.
