The lasts official PGA Tour event of the year is upon us as players head to Georgia this week for the annual RSM Classic. Most PGA Tour players will get a well-deserved break following the event, although some will be making the trip to Melbourne to compete in the Presidents Cup.
We have a full preview and tips for the RSM Classic, which gets underway Thursday night (Australian time) from the Sea Island Golf Club in Saint Simons Island, Georgia.
RSM Classic Betting Tips
It was another strong betting result on the PGA Tour last week as two of our top four selections saluted with Abraham Ancer and Harris English both finishing inside the top 10 to help up pick up some good value wins.
After picking Rory McIlroy to win the WGC event the week before and Justin Thomas to win the CJ Cup a month ago, we are absolutely flying at the moment, and we’ll be looking to continue our hot streak with the RSM Classic this week.
The Field
With just $6,600,000 up for grabs in Georgia, the field for the RSM Classic this week is a pretty light one. Currently ranked No.12 in the world golf rankings, Webb Simpson is the only player inside the top 20 who will be teeing it up this week. Simpson finished second in the RSM Classic all the way back in 2010 and will be looking to put in another strong performance in the lead up to the Presidents Cup next month.
Two other Presidents Cup competitors will be getting one last hit in before the big event in Matt Kuchar and Adam Hadwin, while international team assistant KJ Choi will also be in the field this week.
The rest of the field will be headlined by some lesser known players on the PGA Tour and bunch of Georgia locals in the likes ot Patton Kizzire, Zach Johnson, Harris English and Hudson Swafford.
The Course
Built originally as a nine-hole course all the way back in 1929, the Seaside Course at Sea Island Golf Club was redesigned by Tom Fazio in 1999 and was added to the PGA Tour rotation in 2011. The course plays as a pretty standard 7,005 yard, Par 70 but the Seaside Course isn’t the only one golfers will play at the RSM Classic.
Entrants in the tournament will play one of their first two rounds at the Sea Island GC’s ther course, the Plantation Course. The little wrinkle adds a bit of interest in the tournament, although both courses are pretty easy as far as PGA Tour standards go.
We’ll be targeting local players heavily this weekend, as a bunch of contestants in the field are Sea Island Golf Club regulars.
Prediction
Cannot get enough of Harris English this weekend. The 30-year-old has been on fire to start the 2020 PGA Tour season, racking up top six finishes in four of his first five starts. We were high on him last week at the Mayakoba Classic and he didn’t disappoint, finishing fifth to add more points to his growing FedEx Cup tally.
The American currently sits in 13th place in the FedEx Cup standings and has the most top 10 finishes of any player on tour so far this season. He is also a Georgia local and has plenty of experience at both of the courses in action this week.
