Farmers Insurance Open Betting Tips
It was a solid performance for Before You Bet and followers last week at the American Express as our top pick Sungjae Im finished T10, aluting on a $1.83 top 20 tip. We’ll look to continue our solid run of form as we move into the Farmers Insurance Open this week, which boasts a packed field headlined by some of the top golfers in the world.
The Field
Five of the top 10 ranked golfers in the world will tee it up on Thursday in the Farmers Insurance Open, headlined by Tiger Woods making his 2020 debut. Woods is a seven-time winner of the tournament, including winning the tournament four times in a row from 2005-2008. Alongside Woods as top 10 ranked players who will be competing this week is Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Justin Rose and Xander Schauffele.
It’s definitely the most jam-packed field of the year so far. A host of top flight players fill the top lines of the betting markets in the likes of Hideki Matsuyama, Gary Woodland, Jason Day, Patrick Reed, Rickie Fowler, Tony Finau, Colin Morikawa, Sungjae Im, Cameron Smith and Jordan Spieth.
The Course
Torrey Pines South Course is a long 7,698-yard, Par 72 which was designed by Billy Bell Jr. and opened in 1957. The field will alternate between the North and South course for the first two rounds on Thursday and Friday before the South Course hosts the final two rounds on the weekend.
At almost 7,700 yards, accuracy and length off the tee as well clean ball striking and efficient long iron play will be paramount on the South Course. It’s no wonder that recent winners of the Farmers Insurance have been some of the better ball strikers in the world in the likes of Jon Rahm and Justin Rose.
Prediction
Hard to look past the strong list of top contenders here. In tournaments with lighter fields, someone is usually able to come from the clouds and win unexpectedly, however, with so many talented players in this field, you have to think the winner will come from the top 20 or so chances.
Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm are arguably the two most in-form golfers in the world at the moment and the Torrey Pines South Course suits them to a tee. They are both long and strong with the driver and are two of the cleanest ball strikers in the world.
Rory has started the 2020 season right where he left off last year, already boasting a victory at the biggest tournament of the year so far in the WGC-HSBC Champions in China. In his only other tournament for the 2020 PGA Tour season, Rory finished T3 in the ZOZO Championship, and the Northern Irishman amazingly sits sixth in the Fed Ex Cup Standings with just two tournaments under his belt.
His run over the last year has been amazing, finishing in the top 10 in 16 of his last 21 events including four wins. Last season was the first time that McIlroy has attended the Farmers Insurance Open, and the World No.2 didn’t disappoint with a T5 finish shooting -14.
