We are just one week out from the 2019 Open Championship at the Royal Portrush in Scotland, which means the majority of the top line golfers in the world have already made their way to Europe, leaving a pretty lacklustre field for the 2019 John Deere Classic.
However, one spot is still up for grabs in the 2019 Open Championship for the winner of the event this weekend, meaning for many, this will be one of the most important tournaments of the year.
The John Deere Classic will, as usual, be held at TPC Deere Run kicking off this Thursday, the 11th of July and we have a full preview and betting tips for the event below.
2019 John Deere Classic Betting Tips
The Field
The 2019 field for the John Deere Classic features just four of the top 30 in the current Fed Ex Cup standings. Newly minted pro Matthew Wolff will be back in action this week after picking up his first PGA Tour victory last weekend at the 3M Open and he’ll be joined by a bunch of exciting young players in the form of college teammate Viktor Hovland, Colin Morikawa and Justin Suh.
Amongst the other top names in the fairly weak field are Zach Johnson, who will be teeing it up at the John Deere Classic for the 18th time, Kyle Stanley, Charles Howell III, Joaquin Niemann, Brian Harman and Kevin Streelman.
The Course
TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illionois will host the John Deere Classic once again this year, as it has done for the previous 18 years. The course plays as a 7,268 yard, Par 71, which was emphasizes risk reward as much as any other course on the PGA Tour.
The course generally produces a lot of birdies, as displayed by all but two winners in the past 10 years of the event finishing in the 20s under par. The fairways and greens are generally pretty easy to hit at TPC Deere Run, and length isn’t that important. All that matters here is being aggressive, attacking good fairways positions and pin placements, and of course, making birdie putts.
Strong players in overall shots gained, shots gained in putting and shots gained with short irons will be our major focus this weekend.
Prediction
We love the look of 25-year-old Wyndham Clark this week. The Denver native is coming off 13 straight rounds under par spanning over the RBC Canadian Open, the Travelers Championship, the Rocket Mortgage Classic and the 3M Open. The last three of which he finished T15, T17 and T5.
He is one of the best putters on all of the PGA Tour, ranking 7th in shots gained on the putting surface, 4th in total putting, 1st in putting average and 1st in 3-putt avoidance. Those are some crazy numbers on the greens.
