Back by popular demand are our PGA betting tips. It’s been an exciting start to the 2017 season with multiple winners including Justin Thomas and Hideki Matsuyama, not to mention a new world number one Dustin Johnson. If you followed my tips last season you will know how highly I think of DJ and now that he seems settled in his new “dad life", I expect him to win much more often. Let’s have another profitable season as I offer my 2017 Valspar Championship betting tips.
2017 PGA Tour Valspar Championship Betting Tips
Where: Innisbrook Resort (Copperhead) Palm Harbor, Florida
When: Thursday 9th March (10:50 pm first tee)
The PGA Tour continues with the third stop on the Florida-Swing as once again, the Innisbrook Resort - or the 'Copperhead' will host the Valspar Championship. The Copperhead course measures at 7340 yards and it has taken a playoff to decide a winner over the last two years. There will be 500 important FedEx Cup points awarded to the winner, along with over $1 million in prize money.
The tournament favourite and FedEx Cup leader is Justin Thomas. He already has three wins and five top 10’s in 2017. Henrik Stenson is the only other big name. After those two players, it is a wide-open tournament. The five best players in the world, including new world number one Dustin Johnson are all taking this week off.
This gives all the second and third tier players a good chance and means there will be plenty of value throughout the field. Therefore, it would be smarter to spread your variance out by placing smaller bets on more players. The PGA tour is very top heavy, just look at how the FedEx Cup is already shaping up. When the top players return, the strategy will change.
Daniel Berger
The local boy. He was born in Florida and went to Florida State University. Berger has been very competitive this season. He has four top 25’s and a 2nd place. He has already earnt over $1.2 million and is in 17th place in the FedEx Cup rankings. Berger finished T11th here last year and is very comfortable in his home state.
Tip: Daniel Berger to win - $26 at CrownBet
+ Berger to finish Top 10 - $3 at CrownBet
Graham DeLaet
Still searching for his maiden PGA tour victory. This is the best start to a season he has had since 2013. He has three Top 10’s in eight starts. This course must suit his eye as he has finished T8th in 2014 and in the top five last year. Also, looks more appealing against a weaker field.
Tip: Graham DeLaet to win - $41 at CrownBet
Kevin Na
He couldn’t get the distances right in the high altitude of Mexico last week. However, his two previous tournaments were very positive. Na finished T16th at the Phoenix Open and then T4th at the Genesis Open a week later. In his first three trips to Copperhead he has finished T22nd, T10th and 2nd. Good value this week.
Tip: Kevin Na to win - $51 at CrownBet
Sean O’Hair
Ignore last week’s results in Mexico. O’Hair played very well on the tough Honda Classic track. Finishing in 11th place. He will be looking for redemption here after withdrawing last year (finished 2nd the year before).
Tip: Sean O’Hair to win - $67 at CrownBet
