A decent bounce back day for us last Thursday in our Major League Baseball betting tips. We hit on 2/3 bets for a profitable result and will be hunting for more wins today as we present our MLB betting tips for the key games this Tuesday, the 1st of August below.
Cleveland Indians at Boston Red Sox (9am AEST)
The ESPN televised game of the day will see the Indians travel to Boston to take on the Red Sox from 9am. With Boston lefty and $30 million man David Price on the disabled list, right hander Doug Fister will get his 7th start of the season. Fister is 0-5 through his 7 starts with a less than desirable 7.46 ERA.
Fister also has a horrid history against Cleveland batters, with four of the current line-up boasting an average better than .333 against him. Soft effort from David Price to not get up for this one, many think he intentionally asked to be put on the disabled list to avoid pitching at Fenway Park in front of home fans who have been less than amicable with him lately. Could cost the Sox here, backing the Indians to win with a strong Mike Clevinger on the mound.
TIP: Cleveland to win - $1.73 at Sportsbet
Seattle Mariners at Texas Rangers (10am AEST)
The pitching matchup of the day pits Felix Hernandez against Cole Hamels as the Mariners attempt to win on the road in Texas. Hernandez has returned from a early season shoulder injury to mixed results so far. In the two months he has been back he is 3-2 through 7 starts with a 3.67 ERA.
Hamels has been dominant throughout his season so far, racking up a 5-1 record through 11 starts. He does have one of the most dominant batting line-ups in the league behind him, which is why he has so many no results to his name. However, Hernandez has great numbers against the Rangers, holding them to one run through 7 innings in his last appearance against them. We like the Mariners to win here in a even odds match.
TIP: Seattle to win - $1.99 at Ladbrokes
Toronto Blue Jays at Chicago White Sox (10am AEST)
Two pitchers who have been struggling of late come up against each other here as the Blue Jays travel to Chicago to take on the White Sox. Before his last start where he allowed just 2 earned runs over 5 innings, Marco Estrada had an ERA of over 5 in his previous three starts for the Blue Jays. He has a 4-7 record through 21 starts this season and has losses in his last five decisions.
Shields came off the disabled list recently and lost his last two decisions. He hasn’t kept an ERA of under 4.95 since June which should make for an interesting matchup with the two pitchers really struggling. Estrada’s name has been circled around the trade rumours with the deadline coming up so that could be playing on his mind. He likely won’t get the run support either as the Jays are in the bottom five teams in the league for runs scored and hits on the year. We like the White Sox to win at home here.
TIP: Chicago to win - $2.43 at Sportsbet
