The Formula 1 will venture into North America for the first time ever this weekend, albeit in their most European city as Montreal hosts the Canadian Grand Prix.
Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel extended his championship lead with a win in Monaco, his 3rd of the year. Vettel is yet to finish below 2nd in any race this season while his main competitor Lewis Hamilton fell outside of the top four for the first time in Monaco with a 7th place finish.
After two races in Barcelona and Monaco that were quite tight street style courses, the next three races in Canada, Baku and Austria veer away from that with long straights and slower corners. Aussie Daniel Ricciardo and his Red Bull car were suited to the previous tracks but the next three will most likely favour the likes of Ferrari and Mercedes.
It should once again be a battle at the top between Ferrari teammates Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen who finished first and second in Monaco. Raikkonen was in the lead for the majority of the race before a controversial choice of strategy left the door open for his teammate to snatch the lead. It’s unsure whether Raikkonen was at fault of whether Team Ferrari wanted Vettel to win.
The big question leading into the Canadian GP is whether Mercedes can provide Lewis Hamilton with a car that will perform up to standard. The Russian GP, where Hamilton finished 4th and the Monaco race which resulted in a 7th were mainly due to machine difficulties, which could hinder the British driver who is now a whole 1st place finish behind Vettel on the table.
Hard to look past the Ferrari pair here, with the problems that Mercedes have been having and the track suiting the manufacturer to a tee, Sebastian Vettel should be the best bet once again.
TIP: Sebastian Vettel to win - $2.50 at Sportsbet
Kimi Raikkonen should be out for revenge here after his second-place finish in Monaco. Not sure if he has the ability to win over his teammate but a podium finish for him is good value.
