A tough 0-3 day in our NBA betting tips on Saturday as some underdogs were big winners on the day. We will look to bounce back this Tuesday, the 30th of January as we preview the key games in the NBA’s six game slate and give our tips below.
Charlotte Hornets at Indiana Pacers (11am AEDT)
The Pacers captured a great 2-point win over the Magic on Sunday to advance to 27-23 on the season and 7th in the Eastern Conference. After being down by as much as 21 points at one stage of the game, the Pacers rallied being Victor Oladipo and Lance Stephenson to claim the win. Indiana have exceeded expectations placed on them at the start of the year and will look to further cement their place in the East playoffs with a win here over Charlotte.
The Hornets have won just five of their last 10 games and now sit outside the Eastern Conference playoff picture in 11th place. After injuries to both Dwight Howard and Nicolas Batum hampered the early part of their season, the Hornets have never really gotten back on track, and are now exploring the possibility of trading star guard Kemba Walker.
Pacers big man Myles Turner returned from injury against the Magic and played 11 minutes in the win. His playing time will continue to increase here and with the Pacers playing some great basketball, particularly on offence at the moment, we expect them to cover the 3 point line at home.
TIP: Indiana -3 - $1.95 at Sportsbet
Minnesota Timberwolves at Atlanta Hawks (11.30am AEDT)
How the Wolves are only 5.5 point favourites here is beyond us, they have been playing some great ball to stay relevant in the Western Conference without their star guard Jimmy Butler in the line-up. Butler returned from injury against the Nets in Minnesota’s last game and played 35 minutes, so there’s obviously no restriction going forward.
Atlanta have lost their last three games, all by at least 11 points. Their last matchup against the Wizards on Sunday saw them get demolished by 25 points as five Washington players put up at least 15 points. They might have slightly exceeded expectations with 14 wins through the first half of the season but they are a class below the Wolves here.
Jeff Teague remains on the sidelines for Minnesota but that shouldn’t affect the Wolves ability to get the job done here, even away from home.
TIP: Minnesota -5.5 - $1.95 at Sportsbet
Boston Celtics at Denver Nuggets (1pm AEDT)
The Celtics wrap up their Western Conference road trip on Tuesday as they face the Nuggets in Denver from 1pm. It’s been a tough road trip for the Celts, losing two out of three games so far, so they’ll be keen to get that mark back to even before returning home against the Knicks on Thursday. The Celtics will be without backup guards in Marcus Smart and Terry Rozier for Tuesday’s clash, bringing the likes of Shane Larkin into the fold as the only serviceable guard off the bench.
Denver have their own injury issues to deal with, as Paul Millsap remains on the sidelines and Wilson Chandler questionable for the clash with illness. One thing that Denver are consistently good at is holding home court advantage. The Mile High City is always a tough place to play and their 19-6 record at home this season is one of the best marks in the league.
Really tough game to call here, the game has basically opened at even odds, and we find it hard to pick a winner. We’ll stay away from the regular markets and look to a player performance. Kyrie Irving should have a lot of scoring responsibility Tuesday with bench guards out of the lineup. Look for him to surpass the 25.5 point line.
TIP: Kyrie Irving OVER 25.5 points - $1.83 at Sportsbet
