2017-18 NBA Preview & Betting Tips for Saturday, 18th November
Los Angeles Clippers At Cleveland Cavaliers (11:30am AEST)
The Los Angeles Clippers (5-8) are in a major form slump and are on a league-worst 6 game losing streak. They’re coming off a narrow loss at home to the 76ers on Tuesday, where they let a 6-point fourth quarter lead slip to fall by 4 points. Blake Griffin continued his hot start with 29 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists, while Lou Williams added an impressive 31 points to go along with 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Deandre Jordan will look to bounce back against the Cavs big’s in this one, after having his colours lowered by Embiid (32 points, 16 rebounds) and being restricted to just 2 points and 5 rebounds.
The Cleveland Cavaliers (8-7) look to have finally found some form after winning their last two games on the road and will return home as they hope to make it three in a row against a struggling Clippers outfit. LeBron James single-handedly took the game away from the Hornets in Thursday night’s clash, finishing with a stat line of 31 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists. We are expecting another big game from King James here, with the Clippers lacking a wing player capable of slowing him down.
This is our most comfortable tip of the day as LeBron James and the Cavaliers should simply be too much for the Clippers to handle. We expect them to cover the line here.
Tip: Cleveland Cavaliers at the line (-6.5) - $1.95 at Sportsbet
OKC Thunder At San Antonio Spurs (12:00pm AEST)
The Oklahoma City Thunder (7-7) have split their first 14 games of the season while they search for the right offensive balance to accommodate their three all-stars. They have found ways to claim wins in their last two games, most recently downing the listless Bulls 92-79 at home. It’ll be interesting to see who Coach Billy Donovan asks to guard LaMarcus Aldridge in this one, with the Thunder seemingly lacking a big man who can guard him down low. Stopping him is the key to getting the win here.
The San Antonio Spurs (9-6) continue to soldier on without superstar Kawhi Leonard and veteran point guard Tony Parker to find themselves 4th in the Western Conference standings. However, they’re coming off a disappointing 12-point loss to the Timberwolves, where they were contained to a measly 86 points. Coach Popovich will be sure to get his troops back up and going for this huge clash and will need to find guys able to consistently score the ball that aren’t named LaMarcus Aldridge, who is averaging 22 points per game at a 50% clip.
The bookies have the Thunder coming into this as slight favourites, which we believe is undeserved. Spurs continually find ways to win games and we think this will be another example of that here.
Tip: San Antonio Spurs to win - $1.91 at Ladbrokes
New Orleans Pelicans At Denver Nuggets (2:30pm AEST)
The New Orleans Pelicans (8-7) are coming off a disappointing home loss to the Raptors and will be faced with a huge challenge in this one as they travel to the mile high to face the Nuggets. They were simply outplayed in Thursday’s loss on the way to conceding an alarming 125 points. Davis and Cousins both found themselves on a minutes restriction due to foul trouble, but still managed to put up 44 points between them. On a positive note, Rajon Rondo got on the court for the first time for the season, albeit for just 14 minutes, but was still able to tally 8 assists.
The Denver Nuggets (8-6) have had an inconsistent start to the 2017-18 season and currently sit in 6th position in the Western Conference standings. They’re coming off an away loss to the Blazers where they were held to 82 points for the game. Jokic had an off night and managed just 6 points for the game and will be desperate to bounce back against the Pelicans at home. There are only a handful of teams in the league that are able to go close to matching the front-court ability of the Pelicans and the Nuggets are one of them. If they are able to contain Cousins and Davis to reasonable stat lines they’ll be in a great position to win the game.
Tip: Denver Nuggets at the line (-4.5) - $1.88 at CrownBet
