We turn our attention to the last event of the 2016 World Surf League Championship Tour with a preview and surfing betting tips of the Billabong Pipe Masters
Billabong Pipe Masters Betting Tips
This is the contest we have all been waiting for! We are heading to the north shore of Oahu for the 2016 Billabong Pipe Masters. The Masters takes place on the 8th of December and runs through to the 20th, if needed.
Pipeline is a reef break and is recognized as one of the best in the world. The wave breaks over a sharp shallow reef only meters from the shore and can be very damaging and unpredictable. This hollow powerful monster breaks left and right, but is mainly known for the left unless the wind is North Westerly, which will give surfers the backdoor option.
As we all know, the title has been decided after John John Florence claimed the 2016 WSL crown after a dominate performance in Portugal, but this will take nothing away from the Pipe Masters and surfers will be pushing hard to claim the final victory of the season. Last year we saw Brazilian Adriano de Sousa take out the Vans triple crown after knocking out fellow compatriot Gabriel Medina. Speaking of Medina, he has reached the final the previous two years, but is yet to win. Last year it was Adriano and the year before that Aussie Julian Wilson got the better of him.
Kelly Slater will enter Pipeline again and will be another hot favorite as he knows Pipe better than anyone. He has won Pipe eight times - from 94-96 he was the champion, while his most recent victory came against John John in 2013 where he defeated the Hawaiian local. Over the years Pipe has been owned by the locals - since 1971, when Jeff Hakman took out the first Pipe masters to 2006 where Hawaiian surfing legend Andy Irons took out four titles. Since then a few have been close to return the title to the homeland, but with no success. John John Florence will be in his own waters with a sun-baked crowd behind him cheering and hoping he can finish the year on a high note.
If we take a close look at the Aussies coming into this event, Julian Wilson will be the favorite but has had a very up and down season and has struggled to stay consistent and has battled through heats in 2016. Josh Kerr has had one of his better seasons, and has impressed crowds by going to the air when the waves are smaller and inconsistent. He is one guy that isn't afraid of huge swells hitting the North Shore, so could be spanner in the works for the higher-ranked surfers. However, it's Medina who looks primed for this one. Taking him to get the job done.
With the Pipeline Masters starting in only a couple of days, make sure you keep your eyes fixed on all the action from the island of Hawaii.
