2016 PGA: Deutsche Bank Championship
Where: TPC Boston, Massachusetts
When: Friday 2nd September (9:00pm first tee)
Purse: $8,500,000
The PGA Tour moves into the New England country side as TPC Boston hosts the Deutsche Bank Championship. The field of 125 (The Barclays) has been cut down to 100 players and if the players want to keep their season alive they will have to finish in the top 70 (FedEx Cup) standings to move onto The BMW Championship next week.
Unlike the other FedEx cup tournaments that have a rotating roster of golf courses. TPC Boston is the home of the Deutsche Bank Championship. Originally designed by Arnold Palmer the course is 7216 yards and has a very difficult slope rating. However, each year players seem to rip it apart and shoot very low scores. Don’t be shocked by scores in the mid-to-low 60’s.
Last year it was Ricky Fowler who put on a show with a fantastic come from behind victory over Henrik Stenson. Fowler and Stenson are once again in the top 10 in terms of betting odds. Coming in as hot favourite is Jason Day at $7.50. Day finished in 4th place last week and every time he steps on the tee he looks a big chance.
This tournament falls on the Labor Day weekend in the States. The Deutsche Bank Championship takes advantage of the holiday with a Monday finish (Tuesday morning for Australia).
Jason Day
This guy is just dominating golf. He is winning 17% of tournaments he plays on the PGA Tour. That equates to 1 win every 5.6 tournaments. So mathematically speaking he is slightly under valued at $7.50. Considering Day finished 4th last week at The Barclays + his good track record at TPC Boston (T7th in 2014 & T12th in 2015) I am recommending a play on Jason Day to win the Deutsche Bank.
Tip: Jason Day to win outright - $7.50 at CrownBet
Sean O’Hair
Sean O’Hair is my second pick.....despite his long odds ($101-1). It’s been over 10 years since the estranged -father of Sean O’Hair sent a letter to the National Media derailing Sean’s career for some time. He has fought back and after his 2nd place finish last week (included a final round 66) he is a very dangerous player. He also finished in 4th place here last year only faltering in the final round. He is a good chance this week.
Tip: Sean O’Hair to finish top 10 - $8.50 at CrownBet
+ O’Hair to win outright - $101 at CrownBet
