The NHL season continues tomorrow with a massive 13 game slate. We take a look at some of the bigger games on the card and give you betting tips below for the NHL, Wednesday the 16th of November (AEDT).
Edmonton Oilers at Anaheim Ducks (Wed 16th Nov. 2.00pm AEST)
The Pacific Division rivals take on each other at the Honda Center in Anaheim on Wednesday afternoon. This is the first meeting between the two teams for the 2016-2017 season. The Oilers still sit on top of the division but have surprisingly lost the last three games on the road. They welcomed back Zack Kassian from injury in Monday’s loss to the Rangers. The 6 foot 3’ 218 pound right winger suffered a lower body injury last week, since then the Oilers have lost the past three. Kassian has four points and two goals coming into this game, but also provides that big body presence that the Oilers need. Kassian also plays a key role in the Defensive end he has over 30 hits and can lay crushing blows.
Anaheim also lost in Sunday's game to Nashville and will be hoping to bounce back from the 5-0 shutout. The Ducks are 4-2-0 at home, the two losses coming from two teams with offensive lines that can hurt with the Blue Jackets and Penguins claiming the blow out wins. So far into this season the Ducks seem to be sharing the puck really well with all forwards performing. Veteran Ryan Getzlaf along side Corey Perry and Ryan Kesler have been outstanding gathering assists and most importantly scoring goals as well. The only issue with Anaheim is that they lead the league with penalties which shows lack of discipline. This could be the difference if Edmonton get a taste of the power play.
TIP: Edmonton Oilers 60 min line - $2.83 at Sportsbet
Washington Capitals at Columbus Blue Jackets (Wed 16th Nov. 11.05 am AEST)
In a tough division the Caps are third in the metropolitan standings. Washington are coming off an away loss to bottom placed Carolina. Philip Grubauer had his work cut out as Washington’s defense certainly didn't show any urgency, as the goal tender faced 38 shots in the 5-1 loss. Washington strive on great defense and will rarely lose two games in a row. Expect some defensive line changes against the Jackets and the likes of Ovechkin and Backstrom to come out strong.
The Blue Jackets are one team that knows how to score and have put on an offensive display early in the season. They scored eight goals on a struggling Blues team with Saad and Foligno scoring singles and Gagner scoring a double. This will be an interesting match with the Caps coming off a poor performance and on the road against a fast scoring Jackets team destined for success.
TIP: Washington Capitals to win - $1.70 at Crownbet
Chicago Blackhawks at Winnipeg Jets (Wed 16th Nov. 12.00 pm AEST)
Chicago battle it out with Winnipeg on Wednesday afternoon at the MTS Center. The Blackhawks are once again tough to beat, having won eight of the last nine games.
Their success comes from their forwards who are scoring over three goals per game. Marian Hossa leads the team in scoring with nine goals and six assists and Patrick Kane sits fifth in the league with 18 points. Chicago remain one of the most consistent teams in the league and are 9-1 in the past ten games played in Winnipeg.
Winnipeg have also started strong and would love to change their head to head stats with a win over Chicago. The Jets are 5-3-2 in the past ten with help from the league leaders Patrik Laine, leading overall goals and Mark Scheifele leading the assist category. From what we have seen Winnipeg will be a contender for the central division title this year, all the talk is about the Blackhawks but the Jets have pulled it together. Defensively the Jets have been strong, in the past four they have been without a regulation loss and are giving up 2.9 goals per game. They will face Chicago with a few injuries but this shouldn't worry the home team, expect a heated match up in this one.
