The Spurs were victorious in a massive game five against the Rockets on Wednesday to take a 3-2 lead as the series heads back to Houston. Today we preview the opposing game five in the Eastern Conference between the Celtics and the Wizards this Thursday, the 11th of May.
Washington Wizards at Boston Celtics (10am AEST)
After leading the series 2-0, the Celtics dropped both games in Washington and are now tied up heading into game five back in Boston. John Wall has looked like the best point guard in the league over the two games, picking apart the Boston defence as his readymade defender in Avery Bradley has been battling two hip pointers. The Washington star went for 24 points in game three and 27 in game four while averaging 11 assists through the two games.
Isaiah Thomas was quiet throughout the two away games after his 52-point explosion in game two. Reportedly playing with a broken jaw and still dealing with the tragic loss of his sister just last week, the pressure might finally be catching up to the Celtics star.
The Wizards seemed to have found out Boston in the last two games with 27 and 19 point wins, however, the two teams have met 8 times throughout the season and the home team has won every game. Going back to Boston for game five where the Celtics won the first two games by 12 and 10 points, it’s no wonder they have opened as 4.5 point favourites.
The Wizards haven’t had the best road record throughout the season either, going just 19-22 away from Washington and just 1-4 in road playoffs games so far. All the signs point to the Celtics in this one but with the mounting pressure on Isaiah Thomas and the Avery Bradley injury concerns, it’s hard to bed against the team that has the best player on the floor and the better starting 5.
The Wizards were able to win a crucial game six in Atlanta in Round 1 and we like them to earn the win on the road here.
