2015 The Honda Classic
Where: PGA National- The Champion Course, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida
When: Friday 27th February 2015 (First Tee off Thursday night at 10:45pm)
Purse: $6,100,000
The West Coast swing is over and the tour heads over to Florida for the Honda Classic. The PGA National Champion course in Palm Beach Gardens will play host as it has done so for the past nine years. This course was redesigned by Jack Nicklaus in 1990 and is well known for the “Bear Trap” which are holes 15, 16 and 17. These holes have been known to gobble up the best of them.
There are quite a few players that are currently residing in Florida (McIlroy, Oosthuizen, Westwood, Schwartzel and Keegan Bradley) and all live very close to Palm Beach Gardens. This is definitely an advantage and something to keep in mind.
All eyes will be on the return of Rory McIlroy. He is the stand out favourite at $5.20 and you can expect much of the same for the rest of the season. McIlroy won this event in 2012 and he is coming in with some hot form. He won the Dubai Desert Classic by three strokes with a score of -22 under and this could be the epic break out season like Tiger Woods had in 2000. In that year Woods won 9 events including 3 majors (he also had four 2nd placed finishes and 17 top 10’s)
It’s hard to look past him this week. There will be plenty of weeks that we can PASS on Rory but this isn’t one of them.
