In the lead up to the PGA Championship, Firestone Country Club will host the Bridgestone Invitational. It is one of the four WGC events on the PGA calendar and also one of the richest, boasting a $9,000,000 prize pool.
Firestone was ranked as the 5th hardest course on the PGA tour last year. A long and demanding tree lined course with beautiful bent grass greens. In that regard it sets up similar to Augusta National and we all know the type of players that thrive in these conditions.
Tiger Woods took out last year’s Bridgestone Invitational but it looks like he’s still got quite a way to go before we see him in the winner’s circle again. The tournament favourite is British Open winner Rory McIlroy. In my opinion it’s such a tough task for golfers to back up that kind of performance both mentally and physically. In saying that I’m still not brave enough to lay him at Betfair, so instead we will just avoid Rory. And Tiger for that matter. Instead, I think the following three players are value at their odds and perhaps primed for a solid weekend.
Bet On: Sergio Garcia
Odds: $27-1 at Betfair
$26-1 at Sportingbet
$26-1 at Ladbrokes
