Richmond vs Carlton Fantasy Tips
Lock and Load
Patrick Cripps ($15,240)
How can you look past arguably the best player in the league on opening night. Cripps is 25 years old and could conceivably take his game to another level this year, which is ridiculous to think given that he is already the most complete midfielder in the game. Is an absolute lock to score 100+ on any given night, as he did so on 10 different occasions last season. In Round 1 against Richmond, Cripps racked up 101 points on 32 touches and in Round 21, he had 126 points on 37 touches. Set and forget.
Worth Consideration
Ed Curnow ($13,530)
There is plenty of top line forwards on the Richmond side of the ball in the likes of Dustin Martin, Tom Lynch and Kane Lambert. So much so that it’s hard to pinpoint one, instead, we are opting for Ed Curnow here, who should be heavily involved in the contest and should get a run through the midfield. In two games against Richmond last year, Curnow scored 113 in the Round 1 clash and 122 with 34 possessions and 8 tackles when the teams met in Round 21.
Think Again
Trent Cotchin ($10,010)
With the way the Brownlow Medallist moves, it’s a little hard to believe he is only 29 years old. Another year under the belt and another gruelling finals campaign of wear and tear to consider has us steering clear of Cotchin in the early rounds here. We think he spends less time in the midfield this year and although he racked up 107 against Carlton in Round 1 last season, that was his only score of 100+ for the entire season. Could score 80+ but not worth the risk of a score in the 60s on Thursday night.
