Wednesday racing heads to Warwick Farm in Sydney’s south-west for some quality midweek metro racing. We will see a strong seven-race card and the prospect of a dry track makes for a good day of racing.
As usual, Billy Bestford has had a look at the meeting and has found his best bets for the day.
Warwick Farm Racing Tips: Wednesday September 14th
Race 1
The inside draw should see (1) Rediener every chance for the gun run here and expect plenty of improvement off the back of a very good debut. He finished 2nd there to a pretty smart one and I think that maiden could turn into a pretty handy form reference. There doesn’t look a stack of speed on paper so expect he can land leader’s back with the gaps presenting at the right time. Don’t think he will remain a maiden for too long.
(10) Surf On Turf should improve off the fresh effort and a tongue-tie has been added to his gear for today. Similar to our top pick he should see a nice trailing run on speed and I suspect that might be the place to be in this race.
(11) Ring Ahoy is back to maiden grade after contesting a bm64 first up. Much more suited back in this grade and you have to respect the stable placement in that fresh run. He clearly has ability. The rise to 1400m is no negative.
(13) Zakiyya finished a distant 3rd to the impressive Zou Tiger on debut and Jmac now takes the ride. Sure to have fans off that first up run and can go on with it now.
(1) Rediener

Race 2
Really liked the recent trial of (3) Pereille who hit the line under his own steam with Jmac in the saddle. He sticks for race day and Godolphin are absolutely airborne at the moment. Wouldn’t shock me to see them produce another smart 3yo here. Draws perfect in gate 4 with the chance of a little bit of cover in run and should be too strong for them once McDonald presents him.
(11) On The Beach is unbeaten at the trials, winning two from two by decent margins. Tim Clark rode in the recent one of those and sticks for the ride today. Expect he rolls forward from the wide gate and could be tough to catch.
I think (1) Great Barrier Reef will be much better for the first up run when a big drifter in betting. This horse started odds on on debut in the Canonbury Stakes which Best Of Bordeaux ended up winning. He needs to start showing some form on race day but you’d think that maiden win is coming soon.
(8) Enuendo next best.
(3) Pereille
$3.00 (1.5 units)
Race 5
(4) Willinga Rufio looks the obvious here and think he is the best bet on a tough overall card. His form in debut prep was very good, winning a couple of handy races before finishing 2nd to the smart Naval Seal. Been trialling up nicely, gets a good claim for Schiller and will be making his own luck up on speed. Won well first up last prep over 1500m so the mile looks fine.
(5) Kokoro was dominant at Wyong when rising to this trip 3rd up. Getting away from the wet tracks looks to be the key for him and he will get conditions to suit again here. He will be spotting a few key rivals a start.
Think (11) Onemore Sapphire could be the horse at double figures to trouble the top two. Is a much better horse while his record over 1600m is very good.
(9) Fanmalia has been racing consistently at the provincials and could be worth throwing in the exotics.
(4) Willinga Rufio
$2.50 (2 units)
Race 7
Going to take a chance on the resuming (12) Shadow Devil who has some serious talent but has struggled to go on with some early career success. His win at Gosford at second start was one of the best you will ever see. He started $9 in the Inglis Sprint up the Flemington straight following that but just didn’t handle the occasion. I also think he’s much better suited back on top of the ground and a recent trial was super impressive. He’s worth an EW ticket.
(9) Narito is undefeated from two starts and he has looked impressive in both. McDonald went to Newcastle for just the one ride when he won last time out so he clearly has an opinion. Stays at 1200m but draws well and while this is his toughest test to date he has a stack of upside.
(3) Democracy Manifest has a very good fresh record and proved himself to be a handy horse last prep. He is undefeated from both runs here at Warwick Farm.
(16) Shalailed looks a big price and is yet to miss the trifecta in five career runs. The from around him last prep is strong and gets a nice 1.5kg claim for Reece Jones.
(12) Shadow Devil
