Warwick Farm will host thoroughbred racing action on the Australia Day Public Holiday, and a winner or two will make the day even more enjoyable. Race 1 is at 1:15pm (AEDT), but the main race of the day is in race seven with the running of the Inglis Australia Day Cup. Chris Waller has the two favourites in the race and after winning the Karaka at New Zealand on Saturday he is in fine form. My three best bets of the day are below!
Warwick Farm Racing Tips: Monday, January 27th 2025
Race 1: Schweppes Plate - 1:15pm (AEDT)
(8) Shalaa Gold from the Bjorn Baker stable looks the goods in the first after finishing in the top 3 in four of his five career starts. Last start at Gold Coast he was near the lead when 5th over the 1100m but he is stronger and fitter now and the jockey Josh Parr knows him well now. He has placed on the Soft before and importantly, he handles Warwick Farm well having placed on the turf previously. Barrier 3 looks ideal and I reckon he might settle behind the leader in the run.
(1) Bold Bidder is the stablemate who ran 4th on debut and you will think he will improve again. He hit the lead with 100m to go on debut but got tired. Should go better this time.
(9) Volatile got back on a Heavy track at the Gold Coast last start and ran on well for 6th. He is likely to settle behind Shaala Gold and Bold Bidder and if they go too hard he will swoop and go close.
(8) Shaala Gold WIN

Race 5: Ole Kirk First Yearlings Handicap - 3:40pm (AEDT)
(5) Cosmic Lad is an interesting runner from the Joe Pride yard who hasn’t won in a long time. Despite that he has run fast in harder races than this so i think he is a good show at the price. Reece Jones stays on top and he usually settled the horse in a midfield position when Anthony Cummings trained the gelding. He has only been in the money twice from 11 starts but the former stable always had a strong opinion of the horse but couldn’t get him going. With Jones wanting to continue to ride the horse, I think that's a good sign. Might go Each-Way.
(2) Code In Time is the danger and has finished in the money 8 times from 12 starts. JMac is on and from barrier one he can save ground and he might just settle in the box seat. Won well at Kembla Grange last start but that was a pretty easy assignment.
(4) Satness is very experienced having had 53 starts and he has had a freshen up before this race. He is pretty consistent over the 1400m and looks to be good Place odds. Anna Roper takes the ride from barrier 2.
(5) Cosmic Lad Each-Way
$4.20/$1.55 (1U/2U)
Race 7: Inglis Australia Day Cup - 4:55pm (AEDT)
(9) Tajanis has very good form on the Soft and that is the main reason why he gets the nod here. On a Soft7 at Rosehill on January 18 JMac position him up beautifully in third place before he hit the front with 150m to go to smash them by 5L. That was an easier race but he drops 3kg for this so that will help Zac Lloyd who takes the ride on this occasion. At this track, the horse has Placed twice so he can handle it and the 2400m is probably his pet distance. He will settle midfield or slightly worse and he should be just about taking the lead at the 150m again here like he did last time. Watch track conditions, if an upgrade to Good, we might have to go Each-Way.
(1) Saltcoats rises 5.5kg in weight here which might be telling late but he won when favourite two starts ago at Randwick and that form is good enough to go close in this. He has had 3 starts on the Soft though and has only placed on one occasion.
(6) Bullets High won at Wyong on a Good track last start but can handle Soft tracks too having won twice before. He will likely try and come over from barrier 8 to settle in the top couple.
(9) Tajanis WIN
