2024 AFL Round 16 Preview & Betting Tips
Sydney vs Fremantle
Saturday 1:45pm AEST, June 29th, SCG
Sydney continue to tick all the right boxes and enter Round 16 on a huge 10-match win streak. Their most recent victims were their archrivals in the Giants in what was a fairly one-sided edition of the Battle of the Bridge (102-75).
Not only have the Swans been winning all of their games, most of them haven’t even been close. In fact, their loss to the Tigers in Round 3 aside, the Swans have won all 13 of their games by at least 14 points, and 12 of them by 22+.
Isaac Heeney and Chad Warner have both dominated at stages this season, but it’s now Errol Gulden who’s on a heater for the Swans. The young star gathered 41 disposals and kicked 1.1 against the Giants last weekend, and had a game-high 98% time on ground – highlighting his elite engine.
Fremantle secured a crucial win against the Suns last weekend in a necessary bounce back performance after their horror showing against the Bulldogs in Round 14. The Dockers took care of the Suns by 20 points (85-65) and were well in control from the outset at Optus Stadium.
The challenge now for the Dockers is to replicate last weekend’s performance against the top tier clubs going forward. They face the toughest test in footy this weekend, but also have games against the Hawks, Demons, Bombers, Cats, and Giants in their tough run home.
In a big blow for the Dockers, captain Alex Pearce will miss the next month due to an arm injury he sustained last weekend. Youngster Josh Draper will come in to try and fill the big void down back, while Brennan Cox could return to the seniors as early as next week.
Match Prediction: Sydney in Sydney is by far the toughest test in footy right now and it gets a whole lot tougher for the Dockers without Pearce holding down the fort. The Dockers are seemingly outmatched in all facets of the game and it’s a surprise to see the line currently set at only 25.5 points as a result. Simply put, the Swans should be winning this one comfortably.

Tom Papley 2+ Goals – The Dockers typically defend well aerially but aren’t so great when the ball hits the deck. This is a great matchup for Papley and he should be hitting the scoreboard.
Errol Gulden 30+ Disposals – Errol is on a serious tear right now. 37, 35, and 41 disposals in his last three and remains even money to reach the 30 mark here.
Caleb Serong 25+ Disposals – Absolute ball magnet who has reached 25+ disposals in every single game this season.
Heath Chapman 15+ Disposals – Terrific player and remains great value in the disposal markets. He’s cleared the 15 mark in five of his last six outings.
