Saturday was considered 'Moving Day' at both Rosehill and Flemington given there were a host of quality races that were going to shape up futures markets for down the track and potentially sort out the contenders from the pretenders.
The picture for certain races has become clearer, while others are as clear as mud. Down below is a look at the futures markets following the racing on Saturday, markets courtesy of Ladbrokes.
Golden Rose (1400m), Saturday September 28
After an electric return to the track in winning the Run To The Rose, Traffic Warden is the new favourite at $3.50, in from a high of $11 leading in. Broadsiding worked between races at Rosehill and looked outstanding. He is at $4 while the big drifters have been Storm Boy. He's now at $5.50 after being $3 prior to Saturday. Bustling, the WA raider, was poor in the Run To The Rose and is now at $15 from $9.
Epsom Handicap (1600m), Saturday October 5
The Theo Marks at Rosehill has been a guide towards the Epsom Handicap in the past, the most famous being Winx in 2015. Encap will look to repeat the double and his impressive win has seen his price tumble in, now at $15 from $51. Celestial Legend was behind Encap but his price hasn't changed at $11. Bases Loaded ran a narrow second to Encap and he's now at $18 after being $26 and touching $15.
The Turnbull Stakes (2000m), Saturday October 5
The market here post the Makybe Diva has been fascinating. Via Sistina got to $7 following her defeat at the hands of Mr Brightside but punters thought that price was too big and she's now back into favourite at $4. Mr Brightside was the $4 favourite after his win but is now at $5 with the support for the Via Sistina. Pride Of Jenni was $10 after her flop in the Memsie but was superb in the Makybe Diva and got to $4.60. She sits at $5. The big firmer has clearly been Warmonger, who is $7 in from $26 and was outstanding in defeat.
The Everest (1200m), Saturday October 19
The market really has no idea about The Everest at this stage. Joliestar was equal favourite at $4.80 with I Wish I Win but she has eased to $8 following her plain run in the Sheraco whereas I Wish I Win is at $5. Bella Nipotina is at $7 but the firmers have been Sunshine In Paris ($26-$9), Growing Empire ($34-$9) and Traffic Warden ($34-$14). Giga Kick also firmed into $9 from $11.
Caulfield Cup (2400m), Saturday October 19
Warmonger produced a slashing return in the Makybe Diva and is now $8 second favourite, in from $15. He sits behind Fawkner Park at $7, who will resume in the Underwood this upcoming Saturday. The other firmer has been Ceowulf, who was a dominant second up winner and was brilliant in a trial during the week. He's $34 to $18. Circle Of Fire is $26 to $21 after his return in the Makybe Diva.
Cox Plate (2040m), Saturday October 26
With confirmation he's in quarantine, Japanese raider Prognosis is equal favourite with Pride Of Jenni at $5 for the Cox Plate, the latter indicating she's back on track with a brilliant run in defeat in the Makybe Diva. Mr Brightside, is $15 to $7 while Via Sistina has eased, now at $7 after being $4.60 favourite. Broadsiding has had early interest, into $9 from $11.
