2024 AFL Round 5 Preview & Betting Tips
Port Adelaide vs Fremantle
Saturday 7:30pm AEST, April 13th, Adelaide Oval
Coming off their best performance of the young season, Port Adelaide will be playing in front of their home fans for the third straight week. They were far too strong for the Bombers in Gather Round, destroying them by 69 points (111-42) to improve their record to 3-1.
The Power’s midfield trio of Butters, Rozee, and Horne-Francis were utterly dominant against the Bombers, combing for 93 disposals and three goals. They were also one of the big reasons why they won the contested possessions count (+4) and were far superior in clearances (+9).
The Power have been forced to make two changes this week, with club record games holder Travis Boak sidelined with injury, while Jeremy Finlayson has been suspended for three matches. However Sam Powell-Pepper is now available after serving his four-game ban, while Ollie Wines will also return from a minor hamstring injury.
Meanwhile, Fremantle will be licking their wounds after coughing up a handy lead late in the piece against the Blues. They looked to be in a terrific winning position in the dying stages of their Gather Round clash, but some skill errors and bad umpiring decisions ultimately cost them the four points.
The Dockers would still be pleased with their performance last weekend against one of the better sides in the competition. They destroyed the Blues in both the clearance battle (+17) and contested possession count (+20), and a couple of their young defenders more than held their own against their established counterparts.
Match Prediction: It’s a quality fixture we have on our hands on Saturday night, with both clubs entering the clash in great form. The Power got the better of the Dockers in their only matchup last season, defeating them by 16 points in Perth. They’ve also dominated at this Adelaide Oval venue, winning all six of their previous encounters.
The Dockers have been extremely competitive in all four of their matches this year, but come up against a Power outfit that are tough to beat on their home deck. Simply put, the Power are the deserving favourites and should be coming away with a win in another good battle in Adelaide.

Mitch Georgiades 1+ Goal – Made his return after an ACL last week and looked great. Will get an inexperienced defender on him and should be able to take advantage.
Zak Butters 25+ Disposals – Has had a great start to the season and won’t stop anytime soon. Rozee likely gets more attention from stoppers, so I see Butters having a big game.
Hayden Young 25+ Disposals – His move to the middle has been a success and he’ll remain there. Young will be needed around stoppages and should rack up the footy.
