One of the great modern-day rivalries in the NRL takes place in Round 1 with the Sea Eagles hosting the Storm at Brookvale Oval. Manly head into Round 1 with a clean bill of health and it’s great to see Tom Trbojevic on the park after injury issues last year. So his combination with DCE will be the key in breaking a 4 game losing streak against the Storm at home. The Storm will be looking to keep their amazing Round 1 streak alive after winning their last 17 season openers! Marion Seve has won the race for the vacant spot in the centres and Tui Kamikamica gets his chance to start in the front row. As usual, the Storm will be reliant on the combination of Smith and Munster in attack. While Melbourne smashed the Sea Eagles 36-6 at this venue in August, this should be a lot closer considering the previous 2 encounters were decided by a field goal. So we like the chances of a close finish between two coaches that pride their teams on defence.

WIN Stadium features the last game of Round 1 as the Dragons take on the Tigers. The Dragons suffered a massive blow in the offseason as captain Cameron McInnes suffered a knee injury. Luckily, they do have the experience of Issac Luke as cover. But losing their skipper is still a tough blow. With no Widdop this season, the pressure will be on Hunt and Norman in the halves to get the Dragons attack back to their best. The Tigers will unveil a new centres paring in 2020 with the additions of Leilua/Doueihi. Billy Walters was also added from the Storm to replace Robbie Farah. However, they will miss Moses Mbye and Russel Packer with injury. Another tough game to predict in Round 1 as both these sides have similar problems with understrength squads. With a few new faces, we may see struggles in attack so we like the chances of a low scoring affair. It also helps that the Under is 5-1 between the two teams.
