It's Adelaide Cup Day today, with the $400,000 Group 2 feature headlining the card at Morphettville. The Listed C S Hayes Cup and Listed Matrice Stakes support the Cup, making it a big day of racing in South Australia!
Luke Krahe has previewed the key races of the day below.
Morphettville Racing Tips: 2020 Adelaide Cup Day
Morphettville Race 6 - (Market)
The first of the features and the start of the Quaddie is the C.S.Hayes Cup over a mile. It could be the start if a big day for apprentice Lachie Neindorf, see Race 9 for the best of the day which he is also riding. (3) Regalo Di Gaetavi is a gelding has been up for a long while, this will probably see out his prep. He won two starts back here over the trip after running on well from mid-field. He then stepped up to an 82 grade race last time, again here over the mile. He was last early, held-up when the runs came and didn’t get clear until inside the furlong. He quickened nicely and was too good after nothing went right. Harder again here but a three-peat of Morphetville mile races can be achieved. He will be giving them a start, look for him flashing late!
(3) Regalo Di Gaetano
$5.50
Morphettville Race 7 - G2 Adelaide Cup (Market)
The Adelaide Cup over the two miles is the feature, going with last years third place getter (6) Naval Warfare on an each-way basis. He was sent to the paddock after this race last year and has officially not had a break since resuming in mid-July. He has placed at his last three runs, led for a long way at Flemingotn three back, sat on the speed in the Australia Day Cup at Warwick Farm for second then was at Listed level behind today’s favourite (4) King Of Leogrance last time. He did have every chance in that race but I am hoping with Dwayne Dunn on board and stepping up in trip, he is positive again and tries to lead. I think he will give a great sight on speed and has proven he can run the trip. Getting big odds to find out!
(6) Naval Warfare E/W
$16
Morphettville Race 8 - (Market)
(8) Ambredi is resuming and has a great record fresh (4:2-2-0). She has enough tactical speed to be up with them early and is drawn well. Two starts ago she placed in the Penny Edition here at Listed level, she then went to Flemington for the Let’s Elope at G2 grade. She sat three-deep no cover throughout, an impossible task at Flemington as you are basically running around the bend the first 900m. She stuck on well and was only beaten just over a length. She has trialed well, P Gatt goes on and is drawn well. Looks a super each-way bet to nothing.
Morphettville Race 9 - (Market)
(3) Li’l Contra is the horse to save everyone that is struggling coming to the last and needing that much needed cab far home. Firstly, at the time of writing you can get black figures, I don’t think she will be starting better than even money. Bet early. She was a scratching from the last race at Flemington on Saturday (a very winnable one) up the straight which is a good lead to start with. She was runner-up at three of his four runs last campaign, the only time she didn’t run second was in the Coolmore behind such horses as Bivouac and Exceedance. She should have won the Magic Millions race at Ballarat at her latest but was a little wayward in the straight. She has had a lovely jump-out here recently, jumped well, cruised in front around the outside fence, kicking four lengths clear before easing right down over the last furlong. A replay of that jump-out can be found here. She gets a good claim, should be going forward and is classy enough to sit wide and win.
