Horse Racing Tips: Friday, December 6th
Mudgee Race 5 (Market)
(3) Boom Gate is having his second run at prep number two. He won his maiden when second-up last campaign, settling back near last in the huge field he angled wide and ran over the top of them at big odds. He resumed at Scone in a harder race than this, was in the second-half of the field in the run before tracking up wider and running through the line hard. He was beaten under a length and a half in a race which has proven to be a good form reference with two subsequent winners coming through it. (5) Mo’s Glory comes through that same race, he seemed to have every chance after being up on the speed and has the tricky inside gate to deal with. (2) Pieloce will have supporters after winning on debut last start at Kembla, her win was good but just not sure how well the Bjorn Baker team is going at the moment after a handful of his shorties have been rolled this week and he is getting out of maiden grade.
Mornington Race 2 (Market)
Staying maiden races can often be a little tricky, they are usually made up of a field of horses that have tried and failed over shorter/middle distances, or quite simply horses that are too slow and would be more suited to jumps racing. We have to look for horses that have a little bit of speed and some upside, (2) Fantatstic Rock looks to have both of those. He has only been to the races 8 times and placed at 5 of them. He raced in a VRC St Leger in 2018 before having more than a year on the sidelines, he obviously had a serious issue. He was poor at his first couple of runs over shorter trips, his last two runs have been good since getting out over 2000m. Last time at Geelong, he settled mid-field, made a move at the turn and loomed up to win but ran out of steam. He has a decent turn-of-foot, he just needs to be saved for one run.
Mornington Race 5 (Market)
(6) De Little Sister will start favourite here but I am happy to take him on. He has not placed in 4 runs this campaign, he was brave in defeat after missing the start two back but had every possible chance last time in a harder race and was beaten almost three lengths. Happy to take him on if they are betting shorter than $4. (7) Stryking Miss doesn’t have a great winning strike rate but there has been a lot to like about her two runs this campaign. She placed at Bairnsdale at the picnics on Dup Day then came here to her home track last time, a track all three of her career wins have been. She was mid-field but had to chase very hard with a hot speed, she improved three-deep at the turn before and kept coming in the straight. She should get out to each-way odds and looks a great bet fully fit third-up.
