Horse Racing Tips: Wednesday, August 28th
Sandown Lakeside Race 1 (Market)
This looks a really nice race for (8) Triton Rising. He started favourite on debut back in June when he ran 3rd behind Can't Be Done and King Of Hastings. Even though it's Winter form, that kind of formline looks strong for a midweek race such as this. He finished off well in that race and should improve with the experience under the belt. He's drawn a bit kinder today in barrier 4 and Mark Zahra sticks with him for his reappearance today. He should be hard to hold out. I think the potential value in the race is (11) Go Harvies at $16. He was well supported at each way odds on debut at Bendigo and he was only beaten 2.4L despite absolutely nothing going right. He bounded at the start of the race, raced keenly and then got held up from the 400m-100m mark, eventually being shuffled back to last before finishing off strongly. He's likely to get a much drier surface today and this is a strong race but I'll be having something on at those odds. (1) Alburq started favourite first up and wasn't suited over the short course. He'll be much better off at 1200m today.
Sandown Lakeside Race 2 (Market)
Hopefully they're able to make ground on the Lakeside course today, because (5) Rhames should probably be winning if they can. He won his first two career starts before returning to the races with a fine effort when 3rd here on the Hillside course over 1000m. He was slow away, ended up last in the run but ran home strongly to be beaten 0.7L. He's drawn wide in barrier 11 here so he's likely to settle back off the pace again but the step up to 1200m helps and Damien Oliver takes over from Jake Noonan for today's race. (11) Rich Itch could be the danger now he's finally won a race.
Sandown Lakeside Race 4 (Market)
Strong two-horse play for me in this race. Keen to back both (10) Maozi ($4.00) and (11) Frazil ($6.00). Maozi has placed in six of her eight starts and won here three starts ago over the 1200m. She then ran 2nd over the 1300m on the Hillside course, before a luckless run at Flemington last time out. She was held up from the 500m-200m mark before balancing up and finding the line nicely. They've continued to go up in distance to 1500m today and she draws for a nice run in barrier 5. With even luck, I think she'll fight out the finish here. Frazil produced a strong win at Bendigo two starts ago before starting in that same race as Maozi at Flemington last start. She was $21 into $15 on that occasion but had no luck, caught wide without cover for the entire race. All things considered, it was a good effort to be beaten just 2.1L. The blinkers go on for the first time today and Craig Williams takes the ride, so expect her to run well.
Also backing: (11) Frazil $6.00
Warwick Farm Race 3 (Market)
Looks potentially a two-horse race here between (7) Erno and (8) Full Recognition. I've gone with Full Recognition on top to beat the favourite. Full Recognition bumped into two smart horses - Classique Legend and Green Aeon - in his first two career starts before an easy kill at Newcastle. Last time we saw him, he started favourite at Kensington but was ordinary; I suspect he'd probably had enough by that stage and the stable sent him out for a spell. He returns today with two trials under the belt and both have been very good. The blinkers come off for the first time and he should get every chance from barrier 4 here.
(8) Full Recognition
$2.90
Warwick Farm Race 6 (Market)
(5) King Hewitt looks a reasonable each way bet with $7.50 still available. I backed him first up at each way odds when he ran home really well to finish 2nd behind Lifetime Quest over 1400m here at Warwick Farm. He steps up to the mile second up today and he's definitely a horse with a bit of talent, as evidenced by his one and only start last prep behind the likes of Wolfe. He can probably sit midfield from barrier 7 and with a little bit of luck, he should be hitting the line strongly once more.
