Last weekend’s ATP World Tour events tossed up a ton of surprises, making it an extremely hard week to hit on futures bets. As difficult as it was, we’ve got the perfect opportunity to bounce back with plays from the three events on Tour this week. The highlight of the week is the ATP 500 event in Hamburg (Germany), but there are also ATP 250 events in both Atlanta (USA) and Gstaad (Switzerland).
We’ll kick things off with our preview of the main tournament on this week in Hamburg but will also give a brief preview and best bet for the other two ATP Tour events. Check out our plays below and good luck to everyone following!
ATP World Tour Betting Tips
German Open
The most prestigious of the three tournaments on this week is the German Open. It’s attracted three of the world’s top 10 men’s tennis players, which is a great turnout for an ATP 500 event. The German Open is played on outdoor red clay courts at the Am Rothenbaum Tennis Centre in Hamburg.
The eight seeded players here are:
Dominic Thiem (4)
Alexander Zverev (5)
Fabio Fognini (9)
Nikoloz Basilashvili (16)
Benoit Paire (28)
Laslo Djere (32)
Jan-Lennard Struff (35)
Cristian Garin (37)
As you can see, it’s a fairly top-heavy draw with only 3-4 guys being genuine title contenders this week. I’ll start off by saying Nikoloz Basilashvili is the defending champion, but with the way he’s being playing this season, you can put a line straight through his name.
Best Play
Straight away, the stand out for me and many others is superstar Austrian, Dominic Thiem. If it wasn’t for Rafael Nadal’s existence, Thiem would already have at least two French Open’s to his name. Thiem is a clay court expert and has been head-and-shoulders above the rest of this field on the dirt this season. Aside from a potentially tricky semi-final clash with Fabio Fognini, Thiem has a solid draw and should be too good for the field if he’s anywhere near his best.

Next Best
Another play that presents value is #5 ranked player in the world, Alexander Zverev, to make the final. It’s well documented that he’s been below his best this season, but he’s still been far from terrible. He’s won eight of his last nine matches on clay, which includes a title in Geneva and quarter-final run in the French Open. He’s been given a fantastic draw this week and will have the home crowd on his side, which should enable him to make a deep run.

Swiss Open
The Swiss Open is the first of two ATP 250 events on this week. It’s a fairly week field other and a couple of decent players. The top seed here is Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut, who we’ll be backing in at a decent price. Being one of the top players here, he gets the bye in the first round. On top of that, Bautista Agut has a really weak half of the draw with Lorenzo Sonego the best of the challengers. We expect an easy run to the final for Bautista Agut, where he will likely meet either Dusan Lajovic or Fernando Verdasco, both of which he should be too good for.

Atlanta Open
The Atlanta Open is the other ATP 250 on this week. It’s got the stronger field of the two and should be a competitive field. John Isner comes in as the fairly short favourite after his triumph in Newport last week. However, we’re going to oppose him with a fellow American in Reilly Opelka catching our eye. He will come up against Isner in the second round (if he wins R1 vs Bublik) and will be every chance to knock him off. If he does that, then you can expect him to win his way through the early rounds and potentially push deep into the tournament. Definitely worth having something on him at such long odds.
