Welcome to our horse racing preview and betting tips for racing on Friday, July 12th.
We head in to the weekend with racing at Goulburn, Scone and Geelong today, so we'll be trying to build a bank with our five selections below.
Horse Racing Tips: Friday, July 12th
Goulburn Race 2 (Market)
The race will probably look a battle between the top two saddlecloths, but I am confident that (2) Fusca will be backed into favourtism by jump time. She has the fitness edge over her main rival (1) Task and Purpose who is resuming after 7 weeks off. Fusca went to town for a Highway race last start where he wasw well backed and appeared to have every chance. This looks a lot easier, from the good gate Jay Ford should have her on the speed and the small field should see it into a sit and sprint affair. The topweight is coming off a Newcastle maiden, with the Waterhouse/Bott team for the first time since leaving the Waller yard and was only fair in a recent trial. Lay her all day.
Goulburn Race 3 (Market)
(9) Broom Broom only has the maiden win to his name, but it has to be noted it was on a heavy track as we have here today. He is a backmarker so will be giving away a start but the tempo should suit. Unlike last time at the Kenso track where he never got into the race, hopefully the speed will be on and he can run over the top of them late. This is easier. (4) Entitlement looks a good risk, he was a good winner on the heavy 10 last start up the highway at Nowra, taking that next step off a heavy track win can be even harder. (5) Rubino Veloce will also be wanted in the betting, he was strong through the line last time and looks suited stepping up in trip.
Scone Race 4 (Market)
(11) C’est La Vie clearly didn’t handle the heavy track last start, at the time of writing it is a Soft 5 but hopefully an upgrade by race time will see it back in the good range where she likes it. She has a stack of speed and looks the leader, she was huge in defeat two back at Muswellbrook when forced to sit wide on the speed and didn’t shirk the task late. If she gets the front on a good track, he will be very hard to run down.
Scone Race 6 (Market)
(6) Poulton Le Sands won his maiden here at the track three starts back, he stormed home from the tail to win by more than three lengths on a similar track condition to this. He resumed in a similar race last start here at the track, was a mile back before running on hard to narrowly miss the placings, only beaten a length from the winner. There looks to be plenty of speed on paper which will set it up for him, one of his main rivals (2) Sir Winkle will want to be on the speed but doubt that it will get his own way in front and is having his first go out of maiden grade. All but a handful of horses would prefer to be on the speed, the tempo should be hot!
(6) Poulton Le Sands
$3.70
Geelong Race 7 (Market)
(1) Make It Count looks to have above average ability, he had a year between runs after his debut, resuming at the Bool over the carnival and although over-racing up on the speed, was too strong and got the maiden win. He then went to Moe 7 weeks ago, settled mid-field and deep before running on hard to win again at start three. He has shown the versatility that good horses possess, both wins have been on the Soft track so he should be able to handle the heavy here. Any late money indicating high fitness levels would be encouraging. He does get up in the weights but the claim helps and he showed last start he can carry it.
