Our 2018 Formula 1 betting season got off to a great start in Australia as we tipped Sebastian Vettel to take out the crown at odds of $4.20! The Championship now moves to Bahrain in the Arabian Gulf for the second event of the season this weekend. We take a look at the event and give our top contenders for the podium below.
In an outstanding move in Australia, Sebastian Vettel entered the pit lane while a safety car was in effect to snatch the lead away from Lewis Hamilton and claim victory. Hamilton admitted to being in “disbelief” after seeing victory in the Australian Grand Prix slip from his grasp.
Bahrain will be hosting it’s 14th event in 2018. Sebastian Vettel holds the record for most wins at the Sakhir Grand Prix Circuit, claiming top spot on the podium three times including last season’s honours. The early championship leader has described the track as a ‘mix of straights and heavy braking’.
Hamilton starts as $1.83 favourite here but we’ll once again be leaning towards Sebastian Vettel for the value. Not only does Vettel have the pedigree at Bahrain, but his manufacturer, Ferrari, boast the most wins of any of the top competitors. Ferrari have won the Bahrain Grand Prix a record five times, while Hamilton’s Mercedes did win the race three years in a row from 2014-2016.

We tipped Valtteri Bottas to reach the podium last week and unfortunately, he let us down. We like the Aussie Daniel Ricciardo to find the podium this weekend. Ricciardo hasn’t finished out of the top six in Bahrain in the last four years, with results of 4th, 6th, 5th and 4th. Aston Martin and Red Bull have put together a great machine for Ricciardo in his second year as lead driver and we think he takes the next step here.
