Randwick Racing Tips for Saturday, January 6th

January 5th 2018, 8:46pm, By: tim_tips

Welcome to our preview and horse racing betting tips for racing at Randwick on Saturday, January 6th.

We have a nine-race card with the track rated a Good 4 and the rail in the true position. Perfect conditions predicted so hopefully we have an even track throughout the day.

We have betting tips and comments for every race below.

RANDWICK RACING TIPS

Best Bet: Race 5 Medaille
Best Value: Race 3 Fortensky

Race 1

Small field but a competitive little race. I was very keen on ISLAND MISSILE when the first markets went up and he was $8, but that was before the scratching of Calculated. We’re now getting only $5, but I’ll stick with him. He was well backed first up when he led them up and only blew out late in the race. Last preparation he improved significantly from his first run to his second run, so if he improves like that into this race, I expect him to give a very bold sight in front. Blake Shinn jumped off Calculated to ride him for the Snowdens, and takes over from Koby Jennings which is a big jockey change. SCREAM PARK has been very, very good in winning his past two starts. No knock on him and will be saving at the $2.90 on offer. BARBEQUE and AQUA D’IVINIA both come off good wins at Wyong. That form is slightly questionable coming to Randwick. Both ran on the same day in separate 1350m races. Barbeque ran 1:19.02 while Aqua D’ivinia ran 1:20.87, so I’d be sticking with the Godolphin gelding and taking on the filly.

TIP: Island Missile

Race 2

Bit of a guessing game here with the juveniles. CANYONERO goes on top after a nice debut behind the very impressive Irish Bet over 1000m here. Drawn well and I expect the form behind Irish Bet to stand up so happy to take $6 here. The value could be a Snowden runner, but maybe not the one most punters expect to be their stable elect. EUWASE was luckless on debut before finishing off nicely once she got clear room at the 100m mark. The booking of Andrew Adkins suggests it’s not the stable’s top chance but double figure odds appeals. SOKUDO could be the stable elect with Blake Shinn on board and must be included. Plenty of other chances in a wide open race.

TIP: Canyonero / Euwase EW

Race 3

Competitive little field here but I’ve got a few knocks on a few of these. Going for a bit of value with FORTENSKY here at $7.50. He had a very consistent campaign last time in work and resumes here with two very quiet trials under his belt. It’s worth noting that Hugh Bowman takes the ride and they opt not to go with an apprentice for weight relief. He’s got a good fresh record with two wins from three starts and despite this being shorter than his best, I expect him to sprint well fresh at good odds. THE PHARAOH gets blinkers on for the first time but I’m not sure the horse is at his best, and the recent stable change suggests as much. TSWALU could measure up after winning first up at Wyong but that was only a Class 1 event and this is a big step up. She should be competitive but needs to prove herself in this sort of company. VICEROY has a poor second up record so happy to take him on. GRETNA is the other Waller runner and can also go well fresh here.

TIP: Fortensky EW

Race 4

AWESOME PLUCK certainly comes into this with very strong form for a TAB Highway Handicap but I thought he was short enough at $1.75. He went down as a very short priced favourite first up, and although the form out of the race should prove to be okay, he was beaten pretty comfortably and I’d rather bet against the short quote here. RUNWAY READY bolted in at Ipswich last start and while I’m normally happy to take that sort of form on, I think he can go very close here. Draws well, third up and has an in-form jockey on board. GRIPPED looks to be the value in the race.

TIP: Runway Ready

Race 5

Thought this was close enough to a two-horse race between CELLARMAN and MEDAILLE here. I’m going to take a punt on the Godolphin filly to roll the Waller runner. Medaille is having her fourth run this campaign; she was poor first up but always is (five first up runs for one placing) before improving significantly second up to defeat a small field. Last time out she was first up off a short let-up and was just fair, but she got a long way back and the form out of that race is very good with Noire and Pecans both winning their next starts. Expecting Medaille to improve off that run, Bowman goes on here and I think she’s ready to win again. Cellarman has won three of its past five starts and will be thereabouts again from the good draw, while POSITIVE PROBLEMS ran 3rd behind Pecans and Sedanzer last start and can go well.

TIP: Medaille

Race 6

Going to take on the favourite GUAD OF HONOUR here who just looks a touch short for mine. MY MAHER goes on top for me. She’s got four wins from five starts, and resumes here with two nice trials under the belt. In her latest trial she finished alongside multiple Group 1 winner Global Glamour, and they gapped the third horse, so she should be very competitive in a race like this. Happy to take $5.50 to find out. The value could be LOVERBOY CHARLIE who has a good first up record and gets in with a very light weight here. Will surely go forward from the good draw and give them something to chase at $12. DON’T TEASE ME maybe had an excuse last start after knuckling at the start. He rolled Bon Amis two starts ago and can bounce back here, while BURRADOO is another that can be competitive at good odds.

TIP: My Maher / Loverboy Charlie EW

Race 7

Very keen to take on QUEEN MISTY here who has won just the two races from 19 starts. She has run a place in all three starts this campaign but hasn’t really looked like winning one. She gets a 5kg weight swing on LIVE TO DREAM from last start but I’m going to stick with Bjorn Baker’s mare to defy that weight swing. She has won four of her nine starts and Blake Shinn takes over from the apprentice here – an interesting move given she goes up in weight considerably. She should roll forward from barrier 9 and I suspect she’ll be hard to run down once again. Happy with $5.50. I’ll also have something on SIREN’S FURY who hasn’t had much luck in her past two starts. They’ve been good form races and she has a good record at this distance, so with equal luck she should be very competitive. I think WAHNG WAH could be the value at double figure odds. Her best distance is clearly over further than this but she’s got a good second up record and should run an improved race. Watch the market with OVESTEP – she will be ready to pop up and win one of these days.

TIP: Live To Dream / Wahng Wah EW

Race 8

This is a competitive race but I’ve got it between two horses. NOIRE has won all three starts this preparation and the form out of her latest win is very good, with the horse she defeated then coming out and winning in Group 3 company. She actually comes down in weight from her last win and there’s no reason she can’t win again here. I’ll be backing her as a saver bet though, and hoping LANCIATO can maintain his undefeated record when second up from a spell. He follows an identical preparation as what he did last campaign. He ran first up over 1200m with 61kg, and drops all the way to 53kg here second up over 1400m. He can win this at $4.80, and if we back both him and Noire we should get the winner.

TIP: Lanciatio

Race 9

Another race I’m keen to bet into here with just two main chances for mine. Going to stick with SAMADOUBT who comes off a dominant win last start at Canterbury. I’m generally wary of horses coming to Randwick after winning at Canterbury (especially if they lead) but he was ultra-impressive and his third up record suggests he can even improve today. He goes up in weight but Shinn once again takes over from the apprentice and he should be able to go close once again today. The horse I also want to back is LEVEL EIGHT, with Hugh Bowman taking the ride for the Snowdens, replacing Christian Reith. That’s an enormous jockey change and this horse just got way too far back last start. Her first up run behind Uptown Lad was very good and the form from that race has stood up, so at $ I’m keen to be with her here. Backing both for an equal return.

TIP: Samadoubt / Level Eight
