Match Preview
The Broncos were upset by the Warriors on the road last week, guilty of taking their opponents lightly. In a tight first half, a strong start via a 3rd minute try still meant the scores were locked 6-all at HT. They were their own worst enemy with just a 69% completion rate with only 46% possession. Running for under 1,300m, they failed to create attacking momentum and were hurt when in positive attacking position by simple errors.
The Bulldogs continued their undefeated start to the season with a commanding 32-nil win over the Rabbitohs. Highlighting their class, they ran for 9.7m per carry, dominated possession (61%) and used it to their advantage with a strong completion rate (82%). They were just as strong defensively, missing only 18 tackles and allowing zero line breaks.
The loss of Reece Walsh hurts the Broncos ahead of this game. A loss here would make it 3-straight and will only increase the pressure within this squad (they are still 5th on the ladder). A better showing compared to last week is expected; whether that will be enough to defeat the Bulldogs is unknown. If they are, they must win the battle in the middle. The Broncos have the power to do so but the defensive structure of the Bulldogs is impressive, allowing just 9ppg this season (vs Broncos 20ppg). The home side is better in attack (28ppg vs 26ppg), but the Bulldogs have discovered ways to grind out victories.
The improved performance of the home team should narrow the margin of victory, but the winning streak of the visitors looks set to continue for another week.
