India vs New Zealand
Dubai International Stadium, Sunday 8.00pm (AEDT)
India
India have been perfect through their two games so far in their tournament, knocking off Pakistan in a dominant performance before also making light work of Bangladesh a few nights ago. Virat Kohli’s return to form has been the big story for India after he scored 100 off 111 balls in the win over Pakistan.
On the bowling front, seamer Mahommed Shami has slotted in to fill the void left by Jasprit Bumrah, particularly in the win over Bangladesh, where he took 5/53 off 10 overs to lead his team to victory. With so much depth in their squad, it’s tough to know which direction the Indian’s will go in their selection, but given their performances in the opening two matches it’s hard to see them making any radical changes.
Predicted XI: Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, Ravi Jadeja, Axar Patel, Harshit Rana, Mohammed Shami, Kuldeep Yadav
New Zealand
The Kiwis have flown under the radar slightly during the tournament so far, but have put together two really strong performances to beat Bangladesh and Pakistan. They have had three centurions in Rachin Ravindra, Will Young and Tom Latham through their two games and their batting line-up looks like the strongest in the tournament so far.
They have opted to go for two full-time spinners in both of their games in Mitchell Santner and Michael Bracewell, but it'll be interesting to see if they stick with that or go for an extra seamer as they move away from Pakistan and into Dubai for this clash.
Predicted XI: Will Young, Devon Conway, Kane Williamson, Rachin Ravindra, Tom Latham, Glenn Phillips, Michael Bracewell, Mitchell Santner, Matt Henry, Will O’Rourke, Kyle Jamieson
Prediction
Really tough game to call here between the two form teams of the competition at the moment. New Zealand are the fourth ranked ODI team in the world but their form suggests they should be higher than that. They have won their last five straight games and seven of their last eight.
India have had the wood over New Zealand in their H2H matchups though. They have won five straight against New Zealand, the most recent two of those coming in the 2023 World Cup where they won by four wickets and 70 runs respectively. I think they continue their dominance over New Zealand and lock up top spot in Group A.

Really like the look of Mohammed Shami to be the top bowler of the match here. He has been a great performer against New Zealand over the course of his career. In 14 matches against the Kiwis, he has taken 37 wickets at a very tidy average of 19.3. He also boasts a career best 7/57 against them, which came in their last matchup, the semi-final of the 2023 World Cup.
*If 2 or more bowlers are tied for most wickets, the bowler having conceded the fewest runs will be declared the winner.
