Ascot Racing Tips: Saturday, November 16th 2024
Race 1: Petaluma RS1MW 1400m - 4:09pm (AEDT)
(3) Miss Skyhigh $5.50: 4YO Mare who hasn’t been far away in her last two. Pike sticks on and id expect her to only be fitter again. Yet to feature over this trip from 3 attempts though.
(9) First Beach $5.00: We were with him last week and he was a total forgive run after not seeing daylight until he was inside the final 100m when it was all over (he was good once clear / should’ve been in the finish). Before that, he won his first two starts over 1100m and 1200m respectively when he raced greenly but was still too good. He finished within 2 lengths of AHYEAHRIGHTO last start even after being held up for majority of the straight and that ties in with GOD’S GATE who was narrowly beaten by that runner two back. I think he’ll appreciate getting out to 1400m today, he still has untapped potential, he draws a beautiful gate for CJP to map better than midfield, there looks to be genuine speed on paper, and I like him on the quick back up after last week’s horror show. Happy to risk GOD’S GATE at the price as he tends to over-race, he could absorb some pressure in front, and he’s never seen 1400m. We might need luck at a key stage again today, but if he’s in clear air, I expect him to run well. Happy his way.
(12) Gods Gate $3.10: 3YO colt who has been racing very well tis prep finishing top 2 on all 4 occasions. Up in trip now though, so prefer to watch.
(9) First Beach
$5.00 (1.5 Units)
Race 7: R.J Peters Stakes 1500m - 7:55pm (AEDT)
(1) Marocchino $19.00: Blow out hope who generally improves second up. If he can get to the front and dictate he can be a sneaky chance. Place hope.
(7) Investmentstrategy $11.00/$3.20: best roughie of the day in WA! It was a sound return over 1400m LS when he did a bit of work early to cross over from the wide gate before sitting OSL the entirety. He looked a winning hope at the furlong before feeling the pinch late (only beaten 3L). He’s had 3 weeks between runs and has a perfect record second-up, so I think he’ll take significant improvement from his first up effort (looked like he needed the run to my eye). He drops 4kgs at the weights, Brad Parnham has elected to stay with him over RUSTY DREAMS, and the map looks perfect for him from gate 1. I think he’ll lead or camp behind MARROCHINO for the gun run and then pop out on the corner. He should have a head start on some key rivals, so I’m happy to spec at the price
(8) Luvnwar $3.60: This 4YO Mare boasts a terrific record and have been super. Brilliant first up over 1400m and will only improve second up. 2 from 2 second up and gets a handy enough draw. Goes well.
(7) Investmentstrategy E/W
$11/$3.20 (1 Unit)
Race 9: Jungle Mist Classic 1200m – 9:07pm (AEDT)
(1) Baby Paris $8.50/$2.75: 5YO Mare who we were bullish on first up and she had minimal luck. Deserved to finish closer. Rises to 1200m now and has a terrific record over this trip and second up. Each way all day.
(5) The Boss Lady $6.00: I can’t let her go around without having something on, so we’ll look to save on her. She was a very good return first-up over the unsuited 1000m behind JOKERS GRIN, who lines up a $2.20 chance in race 4 today, when she was held-up at a key stage before hitting the line hard. She drops 5kgs off that run to help offset the rise in grade and I think she has a good map from the kind gate too. Chris Parnham stays with her, she has a perfect record second up, she loves Ascot, is unbeaten at the track/trip, she’ll appreciate getting out to 1200m, and she goes best on good ground. I’m expecting her to be within striking range turning for home and be in the finish. Nice horse
(6) Twain’s Angel $5.50: We were super keen on her LS when she looked to be disappointing to the eye, but the stewards report confirmed she returned with an elevated heart rate / heat stress (forgive). She had two cracking trials leading into the first-up assignment and was well-backed on the day ($4.80>$3.90). ALMIGHTY CLASS is a leading contender in the G3 Colonel Reeves Stakes earlier today and looks to be a very promising galloper, so I thought she did well to finish as close as she did, all things considered. She draws a perfect gate, maps to get a beautiful run in transit behind the leaders, and she’s super genuine. I think she can hit back hard and should be the favourite. Keen
