The Thousand Guineas and Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes are the two main features of the Caulfield program on Saturday. The weather is fine and a Good track is expected with the first of 10 forecast for 12:20pm (AEDT). I have chosen my three best bets for the program, with the first coming up in Race 4, where Coleman drops in class in what looks to be a winnable race.
Caulfield Racing Tips: Saturday, November 16th 2024
Race 4: Catanach’s Jewelers Blue Sapphire Stakes – 2pm (AEDT)
(1) Coleman steps up to the 1400m after being defeated in the Coolmore Stakes last start but obviously that race was a lot harder than this. He was beaten 6L on that occasion and he may appreciate Caulfield more because The Valley doesn't suit him. At Rosehill on October 12 he was very good when 2nd (running on) in the Roman Consul and he hasn’t been overrated this prep. It's his fifth run in and he is ready to get his win for the prep.
(4) Cattogio will likely lead from barrier 1 and will be there for a long way. He settled 2nd in the run when winning at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day and if the rails are on, he can win again.
(3) Pisces is fit now and will get home well from the back. He may be 3 or 4L off the leader though at the 200m. Is consistently close up and expected to be again.
(1) Coleman
$2.60 (3 Units)
Race 5: Sportsbet Village Stakes – 2:356pm (AEDT)
(5) Kin gets the nod again from me in what is probably the 15th time in her 22-start career. She has only won 3 of those but she likes this track & distance. She ran home fairly on Derby Day for 10th of 17 but this is easier. The Dry ground suits and she gets Jamie Kah on and drops another kilo. She has placed in 60 percent of her races so an each-way play should at least get some money back if we have a little more the Place.
(7) Pharari had no luck at Flemington on Derby Day in what was probably her Grand Final race. She will go forward and from barrier 3 she should get a soft run behind the leader. Is the likely fav and is the up and comer.
(8) Holy Racket has won 4 from 9 races on Good tracks and was unlucky last start. Craig Williams stays on and he has already won 3 times on this one.
(5) KIN Each-Way
$4.20/$1.60 (1U/2U)
Race 10: Sportsbet How Now Stakes – 5:40pm (AEDT)
(5) Extratwo is double figure odds here after failing her last 3 runs. The blinkers go on as does Kah and from barrier 9 I reckon he gets a good run in this. He has won 5 from 13 over the distance and this is likely his last run for the prep after he won first up on August 24 over this distance.
(6) Cigar Flick was unlucky up the straight last start and will likely be running on again. Her form is better on wetter surfaces though which may be an issue.
(3) Infancy has had barriers 15 and 16 her last couple and has drawn better here in 8. Mark Zahra hops on for the first time and he will be strong late.
Also Backing: Infancy $12 (1 Unit)
(5) Extratwo
$12 (1 Unit)
