Derby Day Racing Tips: Saturday November 2nd 2024

November 1st 2024, 5:29pm, By: Brendan Bunworth

Flemington Racing Tips

Nine races are on the 2024 Derby Day card in what is arguably the best day of racing on the Australian Calendar. The weather looks supreme and a Good track is all but assured with no rain in the area over the long weekend. Every race on the program is of Group status, and the Carbine Club Stakes is the first on the program which gets underway at 12:20pm (AEDT). After a winning weekend on Cox Plate Day, every race has been covered and the tips of the day are below!

Derby Day Racing Tips: Saturday November 2nd 2024

Race 1: Carbine Club Stakes Group 3 - 12:20pm (AEDT)

(1) Feroce has had the early support since markets opened and that might be a good guide in what is a tricky affair to open the Flemington Carnival. He is slightly down in class in this too after running 2nd in the Caulfield Guineas after sitting 3rd in the run. Should get a similar run here and is fitter.

(6) Aeliana for the formidable Waller and JMac combination will get a lot of supporters in the opener. Will be one of the best late but we won’t know how the track is playing this early in the day so it may be a risk.

(3) Acta Non Verba may lead this field and he almost got there at Caulfield last start after doing the same. If they crawl in front, he can go close.

(1) Feroce WIN

$2.00 (2 Units)

Race 2: The TAB Vanity Group 3 - 1pm (AEDT)

(5) Zeitung has been closing off pretty well in his races and has been racing consistently without winning. He does go better on rain affected ground which we won’t get here hence the decision for a Place bet in this.  Is rarely far away and the $2.90 on offer for a drum looks good.

(7) Matisse may appreciate Flemington and he has also been closing off well. Shinn gets back on after winning on top previously.

(2) Geegee’s Mistruth draws poorly out in 16 but has run two 2nds and two wins on Good tracks.

(5) Zeitung Place

$2.90 (2 Units)

Race 3: G.H.Mumm Rising Fast Stakes Group 3 - 1:40pm (AEDT)

(6) Schwarz returns to Flemington where he is 1 from 1. Jmac has won on three occasions on board Schwarz and the speedster has been spelled and set for this race. When first up he has two 1sts and a 2nd to his name. Won a recent Rosehill trial and is a deserved favourite.

(3) Spacewalk likes Good tracks and has good credentials at this track and over the distance. Closed off well when 3rd on Caulfield Cup day.

(11) Rey Magnerio arguably should have won on Caulfield Cup Day after losing a length up the straight when blocked for a run. Loves Dry ground and will likely be backed into 2nd fav.

(6) Schwarz Each-Way

$3.60/$1.60 (1U/2U)

Race 4: The Damien Oliver Group 2 - 2:20pm (AEDT)

(2) Another Wil will have to settle closer in this I reckon in around 4th position in the run. There are a couple of backmarkers in this who unleash powerful runs late and if Wil has to make a sustained run with them he will likely get beat. He needs to be a couple of lengths in front of his main rivals heading into the straight to win. He has drawn well in 2 and has Kah on who has won on six occasions on top. Likes this distance.

(5) Jimmystar has a big finish on him and was huge in the Weekend Hussler when winning at Caulfield. Shinn is 4 from4 on top.

(1) Mighty Ulysess will get back too and will be running on. Won the Moonga Stakes when doing that and he might like Flemington.

(2) Another Wil WIN

$3.00 (2 Units)

Race 5: HKJC World Pool Wakeful Stakes Group 2 - 3pm (AEDT)

(2) Treasurethemoment for the Laurie stable is going for three on the bounce and can win again. Her latest two wins have been on Good tracks and after settling handy to the pace in which she will do again. Beau Mertens is stiff to get the flick after winning on top in both of those races but Damien Lane goes on who is one of Australia’s best jockeys. The extra 400m is the query so she will want a slow speed.

(5) Powers Of Opal will be running on after doing so at Hawkesbury last start when going around at $1.20. Jmac on.

(7) Killcare Beachgirl was poor last start but will try to lead again. She has won on the Dry before and Gai Waterhouse& Adrian Bott normally pick up a couple during the Flemington Carnival.

(2) Treasurethemoment WIN

$4.00 (2 Units)

Race 6: Coolmore Stud Stakes GROUP 1 - 3:40pm (AEDT)

(3) Traffic Warden was excellent winning the Run To The Rose on resumption from a spell and then he backed that up with a 2nd (a neck) in the Golden Rose. He was scratched at the barriers after that (Everest) before having a look at Flemington in a trial last week. Track conditions suit with it being a Dry track and connections are rapt with the way he is traveling. Has won over the 1200m before.

(5) Switzerland has won two races over this distance and 3 from 5 career starts on Good tracks. He is lightly raced and Waller has been bullish about his chances in this for a while.

(13) Lady Of Camelot ran well for 4th in The Everest and was wide in that race. Will be on pace and will be hard to run past over the final 100m.

(3) Traffic Warden Each-Way

$4.40/$1.75 (2 Units)

Race 7: Penfolds Victoria Derby GROUP 1 - 4:20pm (AEDT)

(6) Kingofwallstreet is big odds but in a hard race to punt on he might be worth a Place bet because he is going very well. He beat some key rivals in the Norman Robinson last start and he is versatile in the run so it shouldn’t matter too much where he ends up. Before that win he was 2nd  by a neck at this track after running on very well from the back. He probably wants a truly run race and 2500m look of no concern.

(7) Politely Dun has Placed twice at Flemington and seems to like bigger tracks. Ran on for 4th at The Valley on Cox Plate Day but was unlucky. Is very consistent and Lane stays on.

(3) Keeneland has already won here and will likely go forward. Was a beaten fav last start when 3rd but was only beaten a head. Has gotten out to double figure odds which looks too much.

(6) Kingofwallstreet Place

$4.20 (2 Units)

Race 8: TAB Empire Rose Stakes GROUP 1 - 5pm (AEDT)

(2) Amelia’s Jewell gets her Grand Final here and has drawn well in 2. She is suited by a Good surface and the stable are confident of a forward showing. She likes the mile and although her runs leading into this race have been okay without being great, this has been the target race. Kah goes on for the first time.

(1) Atishu loves Flemington and will be running on as usual. She was only beaten 1.5L in the Caulfield Stakes behind Deny Knowledge and Mr.B and if the pace is on even better.

(13) Plenty Of Ammo is a mare in form but did she have her day last week? She rated well last start and is 3 from 3 over the distance.

(2) Amelia’s Jewell Each-Way

$6.50/$2.30 (1 Unit)

Race 9: Furphy Sprint - Group 3 - 5:40pm (AEDT)

(7) Isthmus got smashed at the 300m mark last start when she was coming into the race (4th). She can bounce back here at big odds and with Blake Shinn on top. She is a previous Flemington winner on a Good3 track and we might get the exact same conditions here again. She is back up in class and you probably do want the double figure odds for a small bet but the Anthony & Sam Freedman Team are in form and you expect them to pick up a couple of races during the carnival.

(9) Kin comes into this second up and at big odds too. The second up form isn’t flash which is a slight concern but she ran on well last start into 2nd.

(3) Sans Doute ran well (5th) last start after a freshen up and she does go well down the straight. Will be in the back half of the field and will be coming late.

(7) Isthmus Each-Way

$12/$3.40 (1 Unit)
