Spring Racing Carnival 2024: Market Update, 21st October

October 21st 2024, 6:27pm, By: Adam Page

Feature racing was across both Randwick and Caulfield on Saturday, with Ciaron Maher dominating The Everest and Caulfield Cup while Joe Pride had a mixed afternoon which ended in the best possible way via the King Charles lll Stakes.

The picture for certain races has become clearer, while others are as clear as mud. Down below is a look at the futures markets following the racing on Saturday, markets courtesy of Ladbrokes.

Ladbrokes

Cox Plate – Saturday Oct 26

Pride Of Jenni drifted slightly after her defeat in the King Charles lll at the hands of Ceowulf at Randwick on Saturday. She is now a $5 chance after being $4.80 prior. She sits on the third line of betting behind Japanese raider Prognosis, who is a $4 favourite, ahead of Via Sistina at $4.50, her price firming in after the Caulfield Cup where the Turnbull form stood right up. Broadsiding is at $6.

Golden Eagle – Saturday Nov 2

Despite not being nominated, Ceowulf has been a big firmer in betting for the Golden Eagle. He was $9 before his King Charles win and is now at $4.60, but keep in mind he is not nominated. Silver Eagle winner Ostraka is now at $11 after being $51 prior to his all the way triumph. Celestial Legend, who ran midfield in the King Charles, is now at $9 after being $11. Ducasse won the Big Dance Wild Card and is now at $51 after being $126 prior.

Victoria Derby – Saturday Nov 2

Following the Caulfield Classic, the market saw some significant firmers, notably Keeneland, who ran third. He's now at $7 after being $11 prior. He wasn't alone in firming post the Caulfield Classic, with China Sea now at $10, in from $34. The winner, Kingofwallstreet, is $26 into $10. Scary was good in defeat in the same race and is now at $11 after being $21 before the race.

Melbourne Cup – Tuesday Nov 5

Despite not racing, Jan Brueghel firmed for the Melbourne Cup following the Caulfield Cup, and to a lesser extent, the St Leger at Randwick. Duke De Sessa won the Caulfield Cup but isn't nominated for the first Tuesday in November. Buckaroo ran a ripping second and is now at $11, in from $26. Land Legend was very brave in defeat and is $16 in from $41. Japanese raider Warp Speed finished down the track and eased slightly out, now at $18 from $15.

The Big Dance – Tuesday Nov 5

Tavi Time smashed his rivals at Warwick Farm on Wednesday and has been well supported to take out The Big Dance, now into $10 after being $13 prior. Favourite for the race is Gringotts, who is at $3.60 and rock solid, ahead of Here To Shock at $4.50. Floating has had good specking at odds, now into $15 from $34. Estadio Mestalla is $18 in from $51.

VRC Oaks – Thursday Nov 7

Powers Of Opal spanked them in a maiden at Hawkesbury on Thursday and with the John Sargent polish, the market is taking no chances, having her as a $4 favourite after being $6 prior to her win. Too Darn Discreet, winner of the Ethereal on Saturday at Caulfield, is $9 to $7. Hurry Curry is $15 to $10 while Jenni's Meadowran an improved race and is at $19, firming in slightly.
