Spring Racing Carnival 2024: Market Update, 14th October

October 14th 2024, 10:03pm, By: Adam Page

Feature racing was across both Rosehill and Caulfield on Saturday, with an upset in the Hill Stakes, a potential Everest late call up via the Roman Consul while at Caulfield, punters got burned in the Group l races.

The picture for certain races has become clearer, while others are as clear as mud. Down below is a look at the futures markets for the Spring Carnival following the racing on Saturday, with markets courtesy of Ladbrokes.

Ladbrokes

The Everest – Saturday Oct 19

Despite not having a slot as of yet, Switzerland firmed in dramatically for The Everest following his win in the Roman Consul Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill, giving them a start and a beating in an electric performance. He was $101 prior and firmed to $15 but punters thought that was overs and he's now at $11. In what looks like will be an open edition, I Wish I Win is favourite at $5.50.

Caulfield Cup – Saturday Oct 19

Deny Knowledge, a surprise winner of the Might And Power at Caulfield, has firmed for the Caulfield Cup, more so with confirmation that the mare will back up. She was $61 prior to the surprise Group l win but is now a $21 chance. Buckaroo is the $4.60 favourite ahead of Eliyass, who is at $5.50 and rock solid. Metropolitan 1-2 Land Legend and Zardozi are $8 and $9 respectively.

Cox Plate – Saturday Oct 26

Despite being beaten as an odds on favourite in the Caulfield Guineas, Broadsiding remains rock solid in betting for the Cox Plate. He did touch $11 at one stage but a sustained push the last 24 hours or so has seen him firm to $5 and sits as second favourite behind Japanese raider Prognosis, who is at $4. Sitting alongside Broadsiding at $5 is Via Sistina, a super winner of the Turnbull.

Spring Champion Stakes – Saturday Oct 26

The Gloaming Stakes is a key lead up towards the Spring Champion, with the winner being El Castello, and he was the big firmer in betting for the race. He did touch $3 immediately following the win but is now at $4.50. Swiftfalcon, who ran second, is favourite at $2.90. Henlein was favourite but did ease to $5 following defeat but is now back into $4.50. That trio dominate betting.

Golden Eagle – Saturday Nov 2

He was beaten and held by Antino in the Toorak but the run of Craig was quite good and he has been a firmer in betting for the Golden Eagle. He was $51 prior to the Toorak but after his strong finale in defeat, he is now at $26. Japanese raider Ascoli Piceno is the $3.70 favourite ahead of unbeaten French mare Lazzat, who is at $5.50, clear of Manikato winner Southport Tycoon at $8, who will run in The Everest.

Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes – Saturday Nov 16

There was a lot of quality about the win of Jimmysstar at Caulfield and so much so that he is now a dominant favourite to win the Sir Rupert Clarke, now at $3 after being as much as $11 before the race. Here To Shockshowed tremendous grit to win the Alan Brown at Rosehill and is now at $9, in from $17. Olentia spanked them at Rosehill and is now a $9 chance after the sharp return.
