Caulfield Guineas Day awaits us on Saturday with a great card on offer for punters and racegoers. The Caulfield Guineas is the highlight as is the annual Herbet Power, Toorak Handicap and the Might and Power. The weather looks fine and gallopers should be running on a Good surface.

Caulfield Racing Tips: Saturday, October 12th 2024
Race 1: Sheen Panel Service Handicap – 12:15pm (AEDT)
(8) Saban looks to be a stayer on the up and cruised to a nice victory when over the 1420m last start. He came from well back on that occasion and obviously needs longer. Straight up to 1700m here and I think he will be too strong for the Moody & Coleman duo.
(3) Nails Murphy will settle on pace and he does like Dry ground which he gets again. He has only missed a top 3 finish on three occasions and he gets the claim here.
(5) Le Zebra should get a soft run in about 4th position and is a good Place bet. The only concern I suppose is that he prefers when the tracks are a bit damp.
(8) Saban
$2.90 (2 Units)
Race 2: Thoroughbred of Australia Plate – 12:50pm (AEDT)
(1) Erno’s Cube has returned with two close up midfield finishes at Sydney and returns to Melbourne here with more fitness. He likes this distance and is down in class in this race.
(3) I Am Velvet has drawn well in barrier 3 and is 1 from 1 on the Good. Dan Stackhouse knows him well and has won on top before.
(2) Silmarllion was fair when 5th at Caulfield last start but this race is easier. Will settle around 4th and should be running in the top 4.
(1) Erno’s Cube Each-Way
$4.40/$1.70 (1 Unit)
Race 3: Senet Northwood Plume Stakes – 1:25pm (AEDT)
(6) A Little Deep had no luck when runner-up last start and go on his form when winning the two races prior to that. He has already won 4 from 7 starts on the Dry and Zahra goes on for the first time. Going well and I think the $3.40 is overs in this.
(12) Moesha is a nice roughie and I think she will pick up a race during the Spring for Moody & Coleman. Fitter now and will be running on late.
(9) Extratwo loves the distance and loves Dry tracks. This race is one of the toughest he has been in though. Can’t knock him though.
(6) A Little Deep
$3.40 (3 Units)
Race 4: Catanachs 150 Years Vase – 2pm (AEDT)
(7) Lady Jones is a good Place bet here. She has drawn well in 4 and on a preferred Dry track she should be able to track up well at aa preferred distance. Last start at The Valley she almost got there in a race where she settled nicely from barrier 8. It took a late split from Alesphina to collar her late.
(3) See You In Heaven gets better with every run each campaign and is fully fit now. Likes it here and despite liking Soft tracks more, she can handle these conditions as well.
(14) City Of Lights has a good barrier in 2 and will settle a little bit closer in this race in and around 5th spot in the run. JMac on is a positive.
(7) Lady Jones PLACE
$2.00 (3 Units)
Race 5: The Big Screen company Weekend Hussler – 2:35pm (AEST)
(15) Running By won well two starts back and then had no luck in a harder race than this last time. Has drawn wide but can run a big race in this I reckon. Too tough to bet on though and just a watch in this.
(16) Suparazi gets preferred Dry ground and is very fit now. Comes over from NSW after running a good 3rd. Gets weight relief here.
(13) Who Dares is the likely leader and can run a big race if control the tempo. A win and two 2nds here from three attempts.
TIP: No Bet
Race 6: Sportsbet Herbert Power Stakes Group 2 – 3:15pm (AEDT)
(3) Post Impressionist was just fair when 5th in the Group 2 Archer Stakes but he can start to show his best now after changing to the Anthony & Sam Freedman 4 months ago. He is a winner over this distance previously and he does go better on Dry tracks which he gets here.
(6) Fancy Man can Place at odds and I don’t think it will be starting 10-1 as it currently is. The stable expects it to run well and the gelding has won 5 from 16 starts on the Good
(10) Dashing Duchess will be on pace and in a race where there doesn’t seem to be much pressure should be there in the final 100m.
(3) Post Impressionist Each-Way
$6.50/$2.40 (0.5 Units)
Race 7: Sportsbet Might and Power GROUP 1 – 3:50pm (AEDT)
(1) Mr Brightside will get a race to suit here without a very fast speed with Pride Of Jenni not racing. The 2000m is still queried by some but the stable is confident Mr.B can be one of the best horses over this distance in the country. They haven't ruled out the 2400m yet either. Has won 17 from 37 starts and has no issues with Caulfield.
(5) Atishu will be midfield or slightly worse thereof. Will be strong late and is the main danger from the Waller stable. The $1.50 on offer for a Place actually looks overs.
(8) Coco Sun is third up and has more fitness now. Caulfield's form is poor but can’t rule out. Blake Shinn gets his 2nd ride on top.
(1) Mr Brightside
$1.60 (4 Units)
Race 8: Sportsbet Caulfield Guineas GROUP 1 – 4:30pm (AEDT)
(1) Broadsiding gets a race here where the pace will be on early. He will get back and he might look like he is too far back at the 400m mark but he should run over the top of them at the short odds. He has won 3 Group 1s already and the mile looks of no issues. Barrier 9 is okay too as he will get back anyway for JMAC.
(4) Angel Capital is excellent and has done nothing wrong but Broadsiding does look as though he has 2L on him. Ran on well to win on the fence after getting balked for a run here last start and is the clear 2nd pick.
(7) Public Attention is the double-figure chance after he looked like Caulfield suited him last start when 2nd behind Angel Capital. Similar to above though, The Angel looks as though he has a couple on him.
(1) Broadsiding
$1.60 (4 Units)
Race 9: Henley Homes Schillaci Stakes - 5:10pm (AEDT)
(4) Kallos ran very well when first up behind Recommendation and was only 80 percent fit that day. He has barrier 1 again here and will go back to around midfield but with a predicted fast pace, he will be very strong to the line again. Has won 2 from 5 when second up.
(3) Recommendation is a flying machine and will likely settled 3rd in the run. Didn’t seem to like The Valley last start but is proven at Caulfield and is proven at this distance.
(9) Bellatrix Star is the young gun who likes saluting at double figure odds. I think she likes the Soft tracks better but can’t be dismissed because she is going so well.
(4) Kallos Each-Way
$5.50/$1.90 (2 Units)
Race 10: Hyland Racecolours Toorak Handicap GROUP 1 - 5:45pm (AEDT)
(4) Another Wil has drifted in betting on Friday but is still the one to bet from a tricky barrier 1 which is the likely reason for the drift. He will get back to midfield from the draw and will need luck but he had the same barrier when he won here on September 21 after he was almost put through the fence at the 150m mark. Is 5 from 5 on the Dry and seems to love Caulfield.
(3) Antino has been racing very well and gets a suitable Dry track here but has been unreliable in the barriers this campaign. Likes the distance and usually goes better with more racing (4th up).
(9) Craig has been freshened for this and if he doesn’t get caught deep from barrier 12 can run over the top of them at a price. He will likely start his run with Antino at the 400m mark. Willow on.
