October 4th 2024, 2:36pm, By: Brendan Bunworth

Flemington Racing Tips

The Turnbull Stakes highlights another big day of racing at Flemington on Saturday. There’s a little rain around, so Flemington may go from a Good track to Soft track on what is its last meeting before the 4-day Melbourne Cup Carnival. Race 1 starts at 12:25pm (AEST), with all races getting previewed below!

Flemington Racing Tips: Saturday, October 5th 2024

Race 1: TAB We’re On - 12:25pm (AEST)

(5) Moby Dick won at this track last start and will benefit from already having a run down the straight. The combination of Price & Kent with Damien Lane is tough to take on and he is already proven on both Good and Soft tracks. Was well back last start when winning and is likely to need a long sustained run from the 400m to win here.

(10) Wolfy may need the track to stay Dry. Another who runs on and will like early pace in the race.

(13) Zebella may want Dry ground again after winning well at Morphettville last start. Harder race this one and will need to control the speed up front.

(5) Moby Dick

$2.10 (3 Units)

Race 2: Darley Maribyrnong Trial Stakes - 12:55pm (AEST)

(7) Price Tag is the tip in a race for the first starters. Purely going with the trainer/jockey combination of Freedman and Zahra.

(4) Tremonti may lead like a lot of Waterhouse & Bott horses can do when they are young.

(2) Rumble Town is the early favourite so must be respected. Did win a Flemington jumpout on August 23.

TIP: No Bet

Race 3: ABC Bullion Super Impose Stakes - 1:30pm (AEST)

(2) Sergeant Major will find this race easier and won’t mind a Soft track if that does occur. He has ran on quite well against some handy ones and wasn’t disgraced behind Angel Capital in his last couple. Draws the inside here and may get the benefit of hugging the rails throughout. Second ride for Zahra.

(5) Scary won by 3L at Sale after running well for 2nd at Geelong. Lane stays on and will be confident of a top 3 finish.

(7) Truth Or Dare goes up another 200m in distance after scoring by 1L at Cranbourne (Good track) last start. Looks like the distance rise will suit.

(2) Sergeant Major

$3.00 (2 Units)

Race 4: TAB Edward Manifold Stakes - 2:05pm (AEST)

(4) Declichy Boulevard should improve after going too hard early last time at Caulfield (2nd). She has Joe Moreira on top and he will try to position him midfield, waiting for that one sustained run down the long straight. She has been running on well at Flemington should suit.

(5) Wings Of Desire has drawn inside after just getting collared late at Kensington last start. Did look the winner there and has to be respected.

(6) Comanche Miss has been mixing her form but did run on well last start for 2nd at this track. It looked like she liked the track.

(4) Declichy Boulevard

$2.20 (3 Units)

Race 5: Cirka Danehill Stakes - 2:40pm (AEST)

(4) First Settler was fantastic behind Growing Empire at this track in the Poseidon Stakes and will have gained further fitness. He might settle closer here and he should be in the top 3. Barrier 1 may be a concern as stats show that down the straight, wider barriers have a better strike rate.

(7) Reserve Bank has drawn barrier 10 which may be better than his stablemate and he will likely settle a length or two in front of First Settler. He had the gun run when $1.50 when winning at Ballarat but does see this track for the first time. Backing them both.

Also Backing: (7) Reserve Street WIN – $4.50 Betfair (1 unit)

(4) First Settler

$4.00 (1 Unit)

Race 6: Winning Edge Presentations Paris Lane Stakes - 3:15pm (AEST)

(13) Plenty Of Ammo has barrier 1 after four trials leading into this race. She has won her last four races and has won when first up from a spell previously. Over the 1400m Plenty Of Ammo saluted last prep and despite being up in class here, I think she might be forward enough with enough fitness already.

(8) Makram probably needs more distance but can pop up at odds. Has barrier 13 which is not good but he has won 3 races at Flemington.

(5) Arran Bay won over this distance a year ago and has a good second up record. Dan Stackhouse has won 4 times on this horse.

TIP: No Bet

Race 7: The Lexus Bart Cummings Group 3 - 3:50pm (AEST)

(16) Berkshire Breeze will be ridden midfield the stable has indicated and will need to show his best here if he wants to run in the Melbourne Cup in a months’ time. Likes Flemington and likes this distance and has more fitness now after running 3rd (peaking on his run) two weeks ago at this track. Michael Dee will ride for the second time so will know more about the horse now.

(14) Saint George has drawn poorly in 19 and will obviously need luck in running. He has been coming out of the barriers slowly so will likely go back.

(9) Mostly Cloudy is a big chance if the track stays Dry. Will be running on and will want a fast pace in front.

(16) Berkshire Breeze Each-Way

$4.00/$1.85 (1 Unit)

Race 8: TAB Turnbull Stakes GROUP 1 - 4:25pm (AEST)

(4) Via Sistina goes around at backable odds here after failing last run (5th). That was on the Heavy though and from barrier 12 I think she can position up slightly worse of midfield before she lets down. On August 24 she did just that at Rosehill when winning after a powerful last split and with fitness on her side now she looks like running in the top couple.

(6) Eliyass has a tremendous winning strike rate and will be 4 or 5L in front of Via Sistina on the home turn. She has won 7 times from 7 starts over the 2000m and she has never missed finishing in the top couple.

(10) Young Werther likes Flemington and won well last start. Will be handy to the speed and may have taken confidence from his Caulfield win.

(4) Via Sistina Each-Way

$4.50/$1.85 (1 Unit)

Race 9: Gilgai Stakes Group 2 - 5:05pm (AEST)

(4) Magic Time has a good first up record and jumped out well last week at Cranbourne. She has won 3 races over the 1200m but the inside barrier is a bit of a worry late in the day and being down the straight. Michael Dee stays on and he has won twice on top before. She is a Flemington winner and if she can settle midfield with cover, she can strike late.

(1) Arkansaw Kid has The Everest hopes and will need t win this really. Was a beaten fav two starts back when lacking fitness but then repaid the punters last start when winning by a nose at this track.

(2) Sghirripa has been working well at home from all reports and track conditions suit as does the drop in weight.

(4) Magic Time Each-Way

$4.50/$1.80 (1 Unit)

Race 10: Furphy Rose of Kingston Stakes - 5:40pm (AEST)

(11) Fortunate Kiss is very big odds and worth a small shot at the end of the day if we are in front. On August 31 in the Cockram she was very unlucky not to finish closer and then got too far back last start when 4th at this track. Progressing nicely and always needs luck, but worth a throw at the stumps.

(5) Wrote to Arataki has a bad barrier in 17 and may get trapped wide in this. If he doesn’t, he can run a strong race over a track & distance he enjoys.

(4) Skybird will likely want a Good track but will need luck anyway from barrier 16. A better barrier and she is top pick but being first time over the distance with that draw makes it hard.

(11) Fortunate Kiss

$27/$5.50 (0.5 Units)
