2024 AFL Round 6 Preview & Betting Tips
West Coast vs Fremantle
Saturday 8:10pm AEST, April 20th, Optus Stadium
Winless through the first four rounds of the season, West Coast were finally able to get the monkey off their back last weekend with a big victory against the undermanned Tigers. The Eagles trailed by eight points at quarter time but it was all one-way traffic after that as they won by 39 points.
Jake Waterman played the best game of his career in the win, kicking six goals to go along with 13 marks and 18 disposals. Elliot Yeo also continued his fine start to the year and was ranked the #2 player on the ground behind Waterman. In more positive news, Harley Reid had the best game of his young career and earned the Rising Star nomination for Round 5.
In contrast, Fremantle began the season on fire with three wins in as many games but enter Round 6 on a two-game losing streak. They let leads slip late in the piece against both the Blues and the Power and could easily be undefeated had a bit of luck gone their way.
The Dockers defence has held up extremely well in the early goings led by Alex Pearce and Luke Ryan. The latter was nothing short of dominant last weekend against the Power, particularly in the fourth quarter where he took five intercept marks. The Dockers are currently only giving up 63.8 points per contest, which is far and away the best in the competition.
Match prediction: despite coming off a win, the Eagles will start this game as the massive underdogs for obvious reasons. They haven’t got anywhere near their arch rivals in recent derby’s, losing each of their last five meetings including a massive 101-point defeat last time out.
However, it’s the total points market which has caught my fancy in this matchup, as the current line of 163.5 just seems far too high. The Dockers defence is the best in the competition and that’s led to the unders saluting in six of their last seven matches. And with the lack of firepower up forward for the Eagles, I’m expecting another low scoring affair.

Fremantle to Win – Pretty straightforward. Dockers should be far too good.
Elliot Yeo 25+ Disposals – Coming off a monster performance against the Tigers. His body finally looks to be holding up, allowing him to play at his best.
Andrew Brayshaw 25+ Disposals – Just a running machine and will find plenty of pockets of space against the Eagles in transition.
Jeremy McGovern – He’ll have his hands full all day and has been in fantastic form so far this season.
