2024 AFL Round 6 Preview & Betting Tips
Collingwood vs Port Adelaide
Saturday 1:45pm AEST, April 20th, MCG
Reigning premiers, Collingwood have had plenty of time to stew over their first five games of the season after having the bye last weekend. They began their defence with losses in each of their first three games, but have hit back with wins in their last two outings.
Still, there’s plenty of room for improvement despite ticking over the win column in recent weeks, as they only just escaped with the four points last start against the winless Hawks (77-72).
The Magpies defence, which was among the stingiest in the competition last season (ranked #3 for score allowed), has been nowhere near that level in the early goings in 2024, as they’re currently giving up 90.8 points per contest which ranks them #13 in the AFL.
In contrast, Port Adelaide have looked a far better defensive unit this season compared to last (Ranked #3 in 2024 vs #12 in 2023). This has helped them get off to a hot start, suffering only one defeat as we enter Round 6.
The Power pulled off a thrilling two-point win against a quality Dockers outfit last weekend. Late goals to Charlie Dixon and Jason Horne-Francis gave them the lead in the dying minutes, and they were able to hold on to move their record to 4-1.
Unfortunately, Dixon pulled up sore from the win and won’t be travelling to Melbourne this weekend. Instead, Jordon Sweet will be pulling on the Power guernsey for the first time since his arrival from the Bulldogs.
Match prediction: The most recent meeting between these clubs was in July last year in a match that simply had it all. The Magpies would come from 17 points down at three-quarter time to steal a two-point win on enemy soil (85-83).
Close battles are nothing new here, as three of the last five clashes in this matchup have been decided by six points or less, and in three of those the team that has led at the first change has gone onto lose the match.
These are two of the biggest momentum clubs in the competition and you can expect some wild swings both ways on Saturday. And with that in mind, taking Any Other Result in the Wire-to-Wire market looks to be the best bet in a tough fixture.

Lachie Schultz 2+ Goals – Hasn’t had the start he would’ve liked at the Magpies, but is building week by week. The Power let teams get out the back at times when their press doesn’t work, and Schultz should find some opportunities goal side as a result.
Nick Daicos 25+ Disposals – I expect the Power to back their midfielders in, which will allow Daicos some more freedom than perhaps he gets against other clubs. He should get to 25 no problem.
Zak Butters 25+ Disposals – Dominated at the MCG last time and will be a headache for the Magpies all day. He’s an absolute star and is in fantastic form.
Dan Houston 20+ Disposals – Mr. Consistent for the Power. Coming in off 27 touches last weekend and is a big game player.
