Perfect conditions for football across the country this Saturday.
Where to Attack?
Hawthorn have continued to concede points to inside midfielders this season at 9 points per game above league average, which makes the Suns midfielders prime targets to roster on todays slate, especially at home and over four goal favourites.
Fremantle have been giving up a massive amount of points to backs this season at over 20 points per game above league average to general defenders. Port Adelaide have a nice selection of half backs to stack up in this matchup. Or alternatively, the Saints have continued their trend from last year giving up over 10 points per game above league average to the designated kicker over their last five games.
Game Script – Gold Coast inside midfielders, Port Adelaide backs
VALUE PLAYS
Will Graham ($7,160) / Sam Clohesy ($9.180)
Both Suns made their debut last week and at the bare minimum price point they were in most winning lineups. This week with the price bumps the decision will not be as easy. Graham stands out to me as the obvious player to run back, which may be surprising given he scored just 63 fantasy points compared to Clohesy’s 95. But Graham is getting inside midfield opportunity, assuming Sam Flanders roles who has been moved to half back. Last week Graham attended 49% of the Suns center bounces, which means his role is potentially more juicy than Closehy’s long term and is yet to see as big a price bump.
It is worth noting that both players debuted against the Giants who are one of the toughest matchups in the league this season, and this week against the Hawks at home will be much more fantasy friendly so going back to the well and stacking up both players in the same team is certainly in play.
MID PRICED PLAYS
Jack Lukosius ($11,300) has shifted to the back line in recent weeks and like most players, this has led to his fantasy output growing substantially. Posting 84 and 86 point fantasy games from his last two weeks, he has shown in past seasons that the ceiling is over 100 points in this role and that makes him elite mid-range price play, especially in a favourable matchup against the Hawks.
Jake Soligo ($11,300) appears to be earmarked as the young player who will be injected into the Crows midfield to give them some pace and point of difference from the slow plodders they have been rolling out. He was their best player last week, attending almost 60% of their centre bounces and racking up 102 fantasy points.
PREMIUM PLAYS
Lachie Whitfield ($15,230) will line up against what has been the best matchup for backs over the last season and a bit, and in particular for those taking the kick ins. Lachie is the Giants primary ball mover out of the back line and as noted above, the Saints are giving up over 10 points per game above league average to their opponents designated kicker. Whitfield has had a ripping start to the season averaging over 111 points per game and I expect that to continue this week as he looks to be one of the top premium plays on this slate.
Matt Rowell ($14,680) has started the season in career best form with scres of 112, 115 and 104 from his first three games. He has been absolutely dominating on the inside and while he ran out of puff in the fourth quarter last week against one of the league's toughest opponents, I expect him to be back to 100+ scoring this weekend. As noted above the Hawks are one of the top matchups in the league for inside midfielders.
