AFL Round 16 Preview & Betting Tips
West Coast vs St Kilda
Sunday 4:40pm AEST, July 2nd, Optus Stadium
We thought it couldn’t get any worse for the Eagles in 2023, however it did last week against the Swans handing West Coast a 171 point defeat - the largest in the history of their club. West Coast were the first side to concede 200 points since 2011, in a performance that was nothing short of deplorable.
Once again there’s injury issues for West Coast with Elliot Yeo (hip) and Sam Petrevski-Seton (quad) out of the side. Ryan Maric has been omitted, while Shannon Hurn and Jamie Cripps return from injury.
St Kilda were handed their third loss from their last four games in a 28 point defeat against Brisbane in Round 15. The Saints once again failed to perform against one of the top sides in the league, further showing the gap between themselves and the elite sides.
Seb Ross comes back into the lineup after being managed against the Lions, with Ben Patton making way.
With the Saints looking to solidify their spot in the top eight, this game looms as a crucial opportunity to gain percentage which will be crucial come the end of the season.
As to be expected there’s no value in the head to head markets, and although the line at -50.5 is very achievable for the Saints, the total points market is the safest place to go.
West Coast have conceded 120, 174 and 205 points in their last three games and it’s difficult to see them containing any team in the competition at the moment given the standard of talent and lack of competitiveness in their side.
Eight times this season the Eagles have played in games that have gone over the 174.5 line, and with perfect conditions in Perth on Sunday, St Kilda won’t have any troubles putting points on the board.

Max King 2+ Goals: Max King was held goalless against Brisbane, however his form since returning from injury has been outstanding. Performances of 4, 4, 3 and 2 goals before last week should give him plenty of confidence coming up against a deplorable defensive side.
