NBL Round 14 Betting Tips
Adelaide 36ers vs S.E. Melbourne Phoenix
Friday 7:30pm AEDT, Adelaide Entertainment Centre
Looking to get their season back on track after a really tough start, the 36ers will play hosts on Friday night. They lost a heartbreaker in their most recent outing when they went down by three points to the red-hot Kings at home, making it two losses from as many games in Round 13. As a result, the 36ers slipped to 5-9 on the season and are now in eighth spot on the ladder and five wins behind the top four.
The Phoenix made the most of their short two-game homestand with wins against both the Bullets and most recently the Wildcats. Neither win was totally convincing, but they’ve now chalked up 10 victories from 15 games this season, which gives them the second-best record in the competition. The Phoenix now take to the road where they’ve amassed a solid 4-3 record this campaign.
Recent results will tell you that the Phoenix are the better team of the two both in recent weeks and over the season as a whole. However, they have already suffered a couple of bad losses on their travels this season and will take on a 36ers outfit that will be desperate to get back on the winners list. With that said, the Phoenix are the deserving favourites here, but we like the 36ers to be able to cover the spread.

Tasmania JackJumpers vs New Zealand Breakers
Saturday 5:30pm AEDT, Silverdome
The JackJumpers were the form team of the competition a couple of weeks ago, but now find themselves in a spot of bother having lost three of their last four games. They were no match for the superstar talent the Wildcats possess in their most recent outing, going down by 11 points on their home deck. Regardless, the JackJumpers couldn’t have hoped for a much better start to their inaugural NBL season and should only improve with every game they play.
The Breakers have had the worst luck of any team in the league this season and it doesn’t look like changing any time soon. They’ll be without their star centre in Yanni Wetzell for their first game in Round 14, which is a huge blow for a team that’s currently on the bottom of the ladder. The Breakers lost each of their last two games by 15+ points and need to find some better form ASAP to get their season back on track.
These teams have already faced each other twice this season and both results have comfortably gone the way of the JackJumpers. They’ve managed to keep the Breakers to a combined 134 points across their two meetings and with all the injuries the travelling side has at the moment, it’s hard to see them having better success this time around. With that said, we’ll be looking to attack the unders in the total points here as it just looks top high in our opinion.
Melbourne United vs Brisbane Bullets
Saturday 8pm AEDT, John Cain Arena
The defending champions suffered a mini two-game losing streak a couple of weeks ago, but have bounced back in style with wins in each of their last four games. Impressively, they’ve averaged 25.5-point winning margins in their last two outings, keeping their opposition to just 73 points on each occasion. As a result of this type of form, United currently occupy top spot in the standings with a 12-4 record.
The Bullets have played their part in some thrilling games in recent weeks, with each of their last six games being decided by eight or less points. Unfortunately, they’ve been on the wrong end of six of those eight games, which is why they’re on the outside of the top four looking in. However, the Bullets managed to get on the winners list in their most recent game, defeating the JackJumpers at home by eight points.
The Bullets were the hosts in the only game these two teams have played against each other this season, which finished in a two-point win for United, who had to come from behind after trailing by double-figures on multiple different occasions. United will have the benefit of being at home this time around, but we still expect the Bullets to put up a good fight and keep this close enough to cover the spread.

S.E. Melbourne Phoenix vs Illawarra Hawks
Sunday 5:30pm AEDT, John Cain Arena
The Phoenix will be eyeing off their fourth straight win when they host the Hawks on Sunday night. They were too good for the 36ers in their first game in Round 14, defeating them by seven points on the road. This is now the third three-game winning streak for the Phoenix this season, which is why they’re now sitting second in the standings with an impressive 11-5 record.
The Hawks put up 100+ points for the second time this season when they blew by the Breakers on the road last time out. That win was their third by 15+ points from their past four games in a stretch that’s seen them climb into fourth spot in the standings. The real test is still to come for the Hawks however, as they prepare for a lengthy stint on the road.
These teams met at the beginning of February and it was an absolute thriller, with the Phoenix coming away with a one-point win on the road. Both teams have been in good form since then, particularly on the offensive end with the Hawks putting up 88.2 points across their last five and the Phoenix pouring in 87.4 over the same span. As a result, we expect this to be a high-scoring affair that should sail over the total points line.
