2021 AFL Round 18 Melbourne vs Hawthorn Tips
MCG, Saturday 17th July 7.25pm (AEST)
The ladder-leading Demons seemingly have an easy kill on their hands this weekend in the form of the Hawks. They will start as the extremely short $1.06 favourites at an empty MCG stadium.
Match Prediction
Melbourne showed us all why they’re currently the best team in the competition with a dominant win on the road against Port Adelaide last weekend. The Demons ended winning all four quarters as they ran home 31-point winners en route to reclaiming top spot on the ladder with their 13th victory of the season against only three losses.
The Demons have one of the smallest injury lists in the league and that’s one of many reasons as to why they’ve been so successful so far this season. Only Adam Tomlinson (season), Nathan Jones (1-2 weeks) and Mitch Brown (2-3 weeks) are the notable players unavailable for selection.
Hawthorn come into this weekend in some really poor form having lost their last two games by big margins despite being the home side. Last weekend it was the Dockers who obliterated this young Hawks team to the tune of 62 points at their home away from home in Tasmania. That loss was already the Hawks 12th of the season from 16 games, which is why they sit second last on the ladder.
Injuries are starting to pile up at Hawthorn with a whole host of good players sitting on the sidelines. Will Day (4 weeks), Jack Gunston (TBC), Jarman Impey (season), Changkuoth Jiath (season), Jack Scrimshaw (TBC), James Sicily (season), Chad Wingard (1 week) are all unavailable for selection.
In this Round 18 clash we have the best team in the competition coming up against arguably the worst, which is why the odds are so lopsided. The line has been set at a whopping 42.5 points for this Saturday afternoon fixture and even that amount doesn’t seem enough. We expect the Demons to cruise to another very comfortable victory in a game that could get very ugly for the Hawks.

Same Game Multi
There are plenty of value options in the player prop markets for this clash and we’ve picked out our favourite three to form our Same Game Multi. For the first leg we’ll be taking Angus Brayshaw to collect 15 or more disposals. He’s managed to do that in each of his last five games and should have no problems racking them up against the Hawks. Secondly, we like the odds on young Hawk Jacob Koschitzke to kick a goal at any time, which he’s done in 10 of his 15 games this season. Finally, we’ll be including Bailey Fritsch to kick at least two goals. He’s kicked multiple goals nine times this season and should get plenty of opportunities this weekend.
- Angus Brayshaw 15+ Disposals
- Jacob Koschitzke Any Time Goal Scorer
- Bailey Fritsch 2+ Goals
