NBL Round 1 Betting Tips
Adelaide 36ers vs Melbourne United
Friday 7:30pm AEDT, Adelaide Entertainment Centre
Adelaide 36ers on paper, look a slow and tallish type team that will look to beat you in the half-court, but they do have some dynamic players off the bench, so it’ll be interesting to see what we get from them this season.
Melbourne United, on the other hand, have added some superstar talent with the like of Scottie Hopson and Jock Landale. The former is a player that could easily be in the NBA system, so could the former now thinking about it. To be honest, the United team are stacked and should definitely be thereabouts come finals time.
There are a lot of new key pieces for both teams but the talent on the United team is undeniable. They have 2-3 guys that could easily fit on an NBA roster and as long as they play up to their capabilities, then we have them winning comfortably.

Brisbane Bullets vs The Hawks
Saturday 5:30pm AEDT, Nissan Arena
The Bullets are always off to a good start with Andrej Lemanis at the helm, but they’ve added some good pieces too. Vic Law comes in as an import and has the ability to lead this team in scoring, while Nathan Sobey and Jason Cadee can score the ball themselves in the backcourt.
The Hawks have obviously gone through a rebranding phase and would just be pleased that they’re still in the competition. Deng Adel looks to be their go-to guy on offense, but they’re still an unknown as to how they will stack up against elite competition.
Both teams have turned over their rosters, but we’re a lot more optimistic about the Bullets. They’ve brought in a guy named Vic Law that has been thereabouts at the NBA level and that should cause the Hawks defence plenty of problems. We have the Bullets winning this easy as our second best of the round.
Brisbane Bullets -3.5

Cairns Taipans vs Sydney Kings
Saturday 8pm AEDT, Cairns Pop Up Arena
Cairns Taipans were the MVP of the off-season by re-signing both Cam Oliver and Scott Machado. The pair nearly brought the Snakes to the Grand Final series and they’ll only be better for the run. Other news, they bring back some more key pieces and look a very dangerous team.
Sydney Kings lost last year’s Grand Final after opting out for a fourth game and they’ll find it very tough to get back to that situation this season. They lost Andrew Bogut to retirement and will field a much weaker team than we saw last campaign.
The Snakes already have chemistry and will come into Round 1 with a chip on their shoulder. It’s near impossible to bet against them here, so we’ll be making them our best bet of the round to cover the spread.
Cairns Taipans -5.5
