The Valley will host a big nine-race program on Saturday headlined by the Lited Carlyon Stakes which will be run over the 1000m sprint. Race 1 starts at 1:10pm (AEST) and the track will likely be a Soft 5 but as always check conditions on race morning. There are a few quality horses returning from a spell here, starting their Spring campaigns, so we will keep one eye on them.

Moonee Valley Racing Tips: Saturday, August 24th 2024
Race 3: Airitalia Handicap - 2:20pm (AEST)
(1) Dom was backed into $1.75 last start when 2nd so punters will be keen to make amends here and the in-from Team Hayes would have sharpened him up in readiness for this one. From barrier 4 he is a big chance to lead throughout and with more fitness on his side and a suitable track, he will be hard to pass. Shinn has jumped off though and decided to ride on the 2nd fav but that may be to just keep Gai happy.
(2) Trunk is the Waterhouse & Bott runner who will be the big danger. He has raced in Group company before but it looks like his best form to date has been on rain affected ground. Barrier 8 is a slight concern too as he will try to get over and sit on the outside of Dom.
(3) Lavalier came from midfield to win at Kembla Grange last start and has had a trial in between runs. The above two look better but if they go too hard up front then he can win.
Race 7: Boozebud Handicap - 4:45pm (AEST)
(9) Sea What I See won six races last prep and although she won’t be 100 percent fit in this, she goes on top after winning a trial at Geelong last week. If it doesn’t rain on Friday night or race morning then she is a bet but if it does, we will leave it for another time. Forecast suggests there isn’t much around. She is 1 from 1 at The Valley at the Group 1 winning mare sees this distance for the first time. From barrier 6 she should be able to settle 3rd or 4th in the run and she may simply be too good again.
(7) Rhapsody Chic is on the quick return after running 3rd at Caulfield from barrier 2 last week. She gets a similar barrier again in 1 and she will likely position up behind the leader or three back the fence. May need luck in running.
(4) Rheinberg is one of the fittest horses in the race and might lead this field. Track conditions suit but does she have the quality of the favourite?
(9) Sea What I See
$2.90 (2 Units)
Race 8: Paramount Liquor Carlyon Stakes - 5:15pm (AEST)
(5) Mornington Glory isn’t the best horse in the race but is one of the fittest so he gets the nod for the Bedgood Team. He loves this distance and did win a quality Sprint race up the straight at Flemington last Spring. He won at this track two weeks ago and with many of his rivals looking for bigger and better races in a few weeks time, this race would have been on the bucket list for the stable. He’s 3 from 3 over this journey and with the sun shining brightly at the time of typing, there may be a track upgrade later in the day which would be to his liking. He is third up here and may settle just off the fast pace.
(3) Golden Boom comes over from Brisbane and will lik a Dry track too. With a lot of speed in the race he gets his chance from a good barrier in 2 and will be handy.
(9) Bold Bastille is the best horse in the race and will be running in Group races during the Spring. I just wonder if the Hayes Team will want their Group horse giving everything for this race. In saying that she might be just way better than these.
(5) Mornington Glory WIN
$3.20 (2 units)
Race 9: Dr. Shehan Plate - 5:45pm (AEST)
(3) He’s Our Bonneval is big odds and has a wide barrier in 14 but he is worth a throw at the stumps. Two starts ago he almost led and battled on really well for 2nd at Mildura and then last start at The Valley he was slow out but ran on really well for 4th. If he can jump well but then not get trapped wide, then I think he can win at odds. Track conditions suit and he has won for Luke Currie before.
(4) Raikoke has won two races on the Good so will like a track upgrade. He can lead this and he has trialed well in the lead up to this. Kah is on and the Price & Kent team are in form.
(6) Veloce Carro is another who will run really well on a totally Dry track. He likes this distance and he can handle The Valley. Celine Gaudray stays on and she has rode well on him previously.
(3) He’s Our Bonneval E/W
$20/$5.50 (0.5 Units)
