Victorian racing on Friday night heads to Moonee Valley, where eight races have been set down. The track as of Wednesday evening is a Good 4 and with fine weather on the cards, the track will be on the firm side. Adam Page provides his best bets for Moonee Valley below!
Moonee Valley Racing Tips: Friday November 1st 2024
Race 6: Drummond Club Handicap 1519m - 8.15pm AEDT
(10) Inexorable is the way I am leaning. He ran over 1400m at Cranbourne last time out where he just lacked change up speed when they sprinted but he kept on and was game in defeat when fourth to Think Winning. Up in trip, I think will be ideal, and this isn't a deep race on paper to my eye, so happy to be in his corner.
(8) Winsome Star is a Queensland raider for Symons/Laxon that looks to be in for a good prep after resuming at Geelong, getting a fair way out of his ground but loved the way he closed off, just missing out on picking up Fire Wheel. Fitter and up in trip, he'll take beating.
(6) Fire Wheel, I think, will be fine at 1500m. He won the race mentioned above last Wednesday on Geelong Cup Day, knuckling down strongly and in a driving go, finished best. He was several weeks between runs and jumping to 1400m from 1000m so he has room for improvement.
(10) Inexorable
$4.55 (2 Units)
Race 7: Symal Handicap 2040m - 8.45pm AEDT
(11) Duvach should prove hard to beat here for Price/Kent. She ran over the mile at Morphettville last time out where she got back to near last in the run but closed her race off with purpose in a really good effort behind Lomax. Has a gate to settle much closer in the run and this isn't a deep contest.
(3) Midnight Glow lands on speed and will be hard to get past. He sat near the front last Wednesday on Geelong Cup Day and he tried his guts out but just couldn't quite see it through, finishing fourth. Good track/distance record, good racing style, hard to beat.
(5) Deadly Press is racing like a rise to 2000m suits. Nick Ryan trained gelding that ran over the mile on Moe Cup Day where he got back to near last in the run and while he was never a winning threat, the finale was more than sound behind Igotcha. If the gate is okay and can be used to advantage, the trip is fine.
(11) Duvach
$7.90 (2 Units)
Race 8: Bottle Stop Handicap 1200m - 9.15pm AEDT
*SCRATCHED* (12) Top Calibre picks himself I feel. He did a stack of work with Chris Waller without running but debuted for Alex Rae at Bairnsdale where the market push late was telling and he made a mess of them in a sharp display at start one. Finds a very thin metro race here IMO so keen to be in his corner.
(2) Roadcone is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. Just missed the win fresh at Benalla before going to Ballarat. He seemed to have his chance but perhaps there was a sniff of second up syndrome behind The Shaper. Hard fit, ideal map, he can take this out.
(3) Russian Front is dangerous at odds back on a dry deck. He resumed over 1100m at Geelong where he had a sweet trip in transit and presented to win but couldn't quite finish the job when fourth. He is a much better horse on top of the ground so with that in mind and hard fit, he appeals as a knockout hope.
