The 2023 Formula 1 season continues at the Hungaroring in Budapest, for the 12th round of the Championship, and the 38th running of the Hungarian Grand Prix at the circuit. With Max Verstappen now all but assured a third successive Driver’s Championship, the best way to take in the races now is to have a wager on them. Here, we will take a look at the history of this event, and the form of the teams and drivers, to try and find some value in the betting markets.
We had another profitable race at the British Grand Prix, going 3-2 for +3.25u profit. Our hot form continues, with our bets over the past 4 Grand Prix sitting at 12-4 for +18.26u profit. Once again, if you’re not following BeforeYouBet for awesome free content, you’re truly missing out.
2023 Formula 1 Betting Tips
British Grand Prix Review
The Red Bull once again appeared the class of the field early on, with Verstappen and Perez leading the way in FP1. Verstappen maintained his momentum in FP2, however it appeared as though the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc had solid pace too, finishing 2nd in the session, before leading FP3 heading into qualifying.
It didn’t matter, as Verstappen cruised to Pole Position. It was the McLaren pair of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri who stole the show though, as they qualified 2nd and 3rd respectively. In the race, Verstappen always seemed to have the legs over Norris, despite the Brit out dragging him at the start. A safety car during the pit window ruined Aussie Oscar Piastri’s first career podium, allowing Lewis Hamilton to complete a double Brit podium at the British Grand Prix for the first time since 1999.
Hungarian Grand Prix Preview
Once again, it’s hard to see anything but a Verstappen victory at the Hungaroring. Last season, Verstappen appeared to be there or there abouts heading into Q3, however had engine problems and could only manage 10th. It didn’t matter, as he stormed to victory over the Mercedes pair of Hamilton and Russell. With no mechanical problems this season, he should have no problems, even more so as his teammate Sergio Perez has been struggling of late, and wasn’t particularly quick here last year.
Away from Verstappen, this should be a tremendous battle for the other places on the podium. Mercedes were competitive here last season, as was Aston Martin. I expect this to be the case again this season. McLaren had a tremendous return to form at the British Grand Prix, and considering their double points finish at the Monaco Grand Prix, another slow speed circuit, the McLaren should once again be competitive this weekend.
Also, despite their poor recent form, I’m looking at some longer prices on a good race from the Alpine drivers. Let’s not forget, Esteban Ocon won this race in 2021, before both Alpine’s finished in the top 10 last season. With the prices increasing on Alpine being competitive, now is a good time to buy low on the Alpine’s returning to form.
Last, but not least, we should acknowledge the return of the Honey Badger, with Daniel Ricciardo returning to the grid in an Alpha Tauri. With upgrades scheduled for the Hungarian Grand Prix, lets hope Ricciardo has a somewhat competitive car to showcase his talents.
