Horse Racing Tips: Tuesday, December 17th
Mornington Race 2 (Market)
We have to take (7) Our Crown Jewels on trust here, she has not been at the official trials or at the jump-outs in preparation for her return. She had two starts at her first prep, both on the synthetic, placing at both but she did appear to have every chance at the latest. She showed good tactical speed at both of those runs, off the inside if she jumps well, she should be positioned up beautifully. (8) She’s Sublime is a first starter that was ok at a recent jump-out, she showed speed but was only fair in the run home after being asked for more effort early in the straight. (5) Fantome Lady was big odds and led for a long way, she will need to get it soft in front to have a chance. (2) I’m A Shampion is second-up, she did plenty wrong resuming but was entitled to run through the line better.
*Update: the field has been hit heavily by scratchings and thus the price is so short.
(7) Our Crown Jewels
$1.50
Mornington Race 3 (Market)
(3) Timber Top made his debut here at his home track a fortnight ago, he was solid enough in the betting and stared just in single figures. He got a mile back in the 10-horse field, swung wide and attacked the line hard to run third, only beaten half a length. He again stays at the 1000m which tells me that the team think he has more tactical speed than what he showed at his debut. He will need to settle closer as he has the inside draw, tough to see him winning if he gets buried back on the rail. (8) Satin Shoes looks the main danger, she was beaten as favourite when resuming, She was on the speed and although she was slightly hampered at the furlong pole, she was entitled to get a little closer, if not win. Happy to take her on.
Gunnedah Race 1 (Market)
(7) More Than A Samba has had enough chances but won’t get an easier one than this. He has been to the races 13 times for 4 placings, including two of three since resuming. He had obviously had some issues as he was off the scene for almost two years before resuming. Two back at Muswellbrook he sat three-wide no cover before slotting in briefly, he hit the line well but found one better. He had every chance but was outclassed in a much harder maiden at Gosford last time, this is a big drop in class to this. Interestingly he gets the blinkers applied for the first time at career start fourteen, drawn wide he will be pushing forward at the start.
(7) More Than A Samba
$2.35
Rockhampton Race 4 (Market)
(4) Astral Odyssey is a good horse fresh, he showed that once again when winning here last start resuming. He was forced to sit three-wide without cover up on the speed, when asked for the question he responded and hit the front holding them off late. He has the tactical speed to lead, he has to carry half a kilo less going up in grade and I doubt that he can win if he has to sit parked. Although it is a very long run home here, it is not usually a disadvantage to be up on the speed. (1) All Eez races well here at the track and gets a stack of gear changes, (2) Mutombo is speedy and gets the blinkers on but will need to improve on his fresh record.
